Took the plunge!

Post by FM WarB »

Loaded fine, updated to 1.23. I could cycle through phases to second turn on hotseat, but program seemed to hang on solitaire play as TE.
Why do German forces start with no corps in the east in 1914? (Was reading my old Tannenberg termpaper while downloading.)
I'm trying to learn mechanics and get a grip on forces/production, etc.

you can move all units during the setup phase at the beginning. if you want to put some to the east - just do it! there are also some pre-made setups available that you can load.

If there is a "busy" notification in the upper right corner results from last turn are still being executed and shown. Sometimes during the ensuing update phase the program has a tendency to hang a bit. I usually just surf the internet or something different in the meantime.

Where would I find these pre made setups?

I am also interested in getting a grip on the sides' forces and production/resource/food capabilities, to be able to make intelligent choices in resource/HQ activation.

I say that busy notice. (1 gig Ram, here, which I hoped was enough.) Thing is I made no moves or activations while in solitaire as CP. My intent was merely to cycle through the impulses to look at turn two.

if you start a new game during the setup phase you can select "load setup" in the menu. there is a subfolder for those.

check the production screen during the strategic phase to get a hold of these informations. also click the "show resource hexes" button to show them on the map.

Thanks; the setups are interesting.
Gave it ove a half hour on Solitiare play and still the impulse failed to compute. This is too long; I wonder what the problem is.

FM WarB, so the game loads, you can do the mobilization phase of moving units around, I assume you can do both the activation and the orders phases and then you click the arrow in the top-right corner and nothing happens whatsoever??

For comparison purposes, on my 1.7 ghz P4 with 1gb of ram it takes from 12 to 15 seconds in a solitaire game in 1915 to process the AI and the impulse.

All I get is "busy" as impulse is being processed in solitaire play. I gave up after a half hour or so. No advantage and few actual moves/activations or other actions.
I could cycle through turns on Hotseat without a problem.
The game opens and runs in windowed mode and there is no bottom screen info bar.

Sounds like the game window is bigger than the screen so that you can't click the bottom arrow to proceed.
Choose a smaller screen resolution for the game.

Thanks. It was a screen resolution issue. Have matched game setting to screen res and got it working.

I had the same screen resolution issue as well. Seems pretty common.

It's a shame that on my widescreen, best resolution combination gives a narrow GoA window.

Frank,
Thanks for your replies.
Screen res 1280x768. Game res 1024x768. I tried other combinations which only gave the illusion of greater width, and sometimes cut the hieght.

Okay, there's the 1280 by 800 but of course that wouldn't work for you. Not sure why I didn't do a 1280 by 768 but I can add one now.

The resolutions just change the amount of map that is visible, everything else stays the same.

Thanks Frank.  I did try 1280x800 game res.  Tried more combinations than I'd care to enumerate.
