1.25 Public Beta has been uploaded!

Post by Greg Wilcox »

The 1.25 Update is now available as a Public Beta via our Members Club. While we do final testing we figured we'd offer you a change to get it early as well. This is still a beta, but it's stable and solid as far as we can tell. Barring any major issues being found, this will become the official update.

You can download this as a Registered Download as long as you have registered your Guns of August serial number in our Members Club (click on the MEMBERS link in the top nav bar).

Changes
Features
1. Reduced the length of time isolated units and HQs can hold out.
2. Artillery alone in a hex when attacked is now destroyed instead of auto-retreating.
3. Activated units now move before cavalry units which prevents cavalry attacking an enemy stack on the offensive in order to freeze it in place.
4. Removed ability of CP naval units to move past Gibraltar.
5. Removed seeing movement arrows in enemy rear areas.
6. Countries can no longer transfer food and RMs to Britain without using naval transport. All transfers over water now require naval units on shipping missions in that water. The naval orders display now updates these requirements. So for example if on the nat'l status screen you decide to transfer 10 RMs to Britain from France the naval orders screen will tell you you need 5 transport ships on a shipping mission in the Atlantic, on top of other requirements.

Fixes
1. Fixed: Italy surrenders and French units entered the country a turn later.
2. Removed Seeing Movement arrows in enemy rear areas
3. Fixed: negative effects of TE attacking Belgium/Holland/Lux.
4. Fixed: need to enter password twice in PBEM games

I've changed this version to 1.30 instead of 1.25 So you can't continue from 1.24 or 1.25 to 1.30, you have to start a new game.

Besides the above changes listed by Greg, I've added the following

Features
1. Upgraded the AI to make it more active, less "stand pat".
2. Upgraded AI to make it a bit "smarter" tactically
3. Upgraded CP AI so as to produce a greater chance of the CP AI not following an "east first" strategy.
4. Increased possibility of other neutrals being outraged by attacks on Belgium and Holland.
5. Allowed neutrals to be concerned by more than 1 invasion of a neutral per turn.
6. Increased size of naval groupings. Affects battles and searches.
7. Completely rewrote transfers of RMs, food and Industry points between countries. There are now overland and overseas transfers, the overseas requiring a port which is a national port if available or an allied one. It should now be possible as an example, to transfer food from Britain to Russia by using shipping in the Atlantic, West Med and East Med to the Greek port of Salonika and then overland through a conquered Bulgaria and an allied Romania to Odessa. I still have some tweaks to do on this but it should be pretty close. One thing that is not done at this time is the limits on transfers caused by the value of the route and another is allied minor country resources are not available.
8. Added a small piece of text to the display of hex data, to the right of the trench strength will now display somehting like "F:1 R:0 I:0" as you pass the mouse over. Its the actual amount of food, raw material and industry in a hex which should clear up concerns where more than one is in a hex but that isn't displayed by the icon.

Fixes
1. Fixed an isolated city problem. The case mentioned here being a surrounded Posen.
2. Fixed a 1 impulse delay on British units amphibbing to France before they could use rail movement in France.
3. The fact the the TE player wasn't getting the "sunk" message for his own ships.
4. New York overstacking problem.
5. Terrain value of hexes 31,41 and 32,41
6. Fixed naval transport icon

And I still have a couple of other things to finish up on my to-do list, mainly to do with transfers.

Frank, is there a chance you can change the current situation where CP has a complete blackout of the diplomatic status of pro-entente neutrals. At one time they had at least an approximate idea of their status so they could make a semi-informed decision of how to allocate their there limited diplomatic points. Now they are forced to blindly allocate their diplomatic efforts. Certainly their local ambassador could do better than that.

Lascar, yep, I will look at the political fog. On the Austrian rail capacity, I'm sure its always been 12.

I am wondering if a historical case can be made for increasing the Austrian rail capacity. It is my understanding that the AH empire had a pretty well developed infrastructure compared to Russia or Turkey. Yet Russia has 24 and Turkey has 10. As it stands now Austria is hard pressed to redeploy its limited number of corps and take advantage of its interior lines like Germany does. If they conquer Romania and Serbia they can quickly accumulate a sizable surplus of food and RMs and with only 12 rail points they can send only a small number of their reserves to Germany and have only enough left over to transport 2 or 3 corps. Perhaps 18 would add a little bit of balance on the scale of play balance for the CP.

As you say, 12 does seem pretty low given what others are at. Changing it to 18 would be fine with me.
