Player Defined Upgrades

Post by HansBolter »

Will player defined upgrades be fixed in AE so they are truly player defined?

Please see the following thread for an understanding of what I am asking for and why:

If I understand your question, and I’m not sure I do, I think the answer is no.

Player Defined Upgrades work in a manner very similar to stock WiTP, although the options are opened up somewhat. If you are hoping that PDU will give you the whole aircraft list to choose from, your hopes will be dashed. Your choices will be limited; and the limitations will be those that you, and everyone else, are already familiar with.

There is more flexibility in AE, but the fundamentals remain the same.

No, what I want is for the AI to be prevented from overriding PDUs by making choices of plane types other than those made by the player.

I want the AI to be prevented from allowing a squadron set to auto upgrade with a Player Defined choice of F4F3s from upgrading to F4F4s because the AI overrides the player defined choice.

PDU off and Auto Upgrade on should give the AI complete control over both the timing of the upgrade and the choice of plane type.

PDU on with Auto Upgrade on should only allow the AI to control the moment of upgrade and NOT the choice of plane type.

Currently, in stock, the AI will override the players choice.

Sorry Hans PDU isn't broken its WAD and the same logic is applied to AE as per JWE's post.

If you want to avoid these situations you need to leave auto upgrade OFF during turn resolution.

Any other result with the current logic would mess up PDU OFF and the AI.

PDU was added as an option at players request after the original logic was worked out and the game largely remains designed for PDU OFF and you will always get these oddities when playing PDU ON so you need to leave auto upgrade OFF and do each group manually to avoid these small issues
