Request for screenshots to show different resolutions and zoom modes for comparison purposes.

We have all seen the astounding screenshots so far. But, I have noticed with some Matrix titles the hexes are stretched left and right on widescreen minitors. Some are even pixelated from being enlarged too much. Typically those designed in 800x600 and blown up to a native resolution of 1680x1050 or larger. So I would like to see a small series of screen shots in specific resolutions and zoom modes. Perhaps a normal gameplay, minimum, and maximum zoom modes. That would be three screenshots for five resolutions listed below. This will allow us to see how MWiF will look on our computers when actually playing.

I think the following would cover 75% or more of the intended target audience?

Zoom Max, min, and normal.
Resolution Standard: 1024x768 and 1280x1024
Resolution Widescreen: 1440x900, 1680x1050, and 1920x1200

If these already exist please point me in the right direction of the 1680x1050 shots as that is my native resolution.

On a couple of occasions I have posted a full set (8 zoom levels) of the maps, showing units. That is when the highest demands are made on screen resolution. I do not know where those posts are, though I know they do still exist.

JPG images can be stretched using a lot of different software, but I am not doing that with my posts. As for what your monitor does to JPG images, that probably depends solely on the software being used to display them.

MWIF is not "blowing up" images to fill a screen. It simply looks up the current resolution of the monitor (system internals), and displays that many pixels. If you have smaller than 1024 by 768, many screens are going to be cropped, so the game will ship with 1024 by 768 as a minimum requirement. If you have a larger resolution, then you can expand/resize the map (and some of the forms) so more pixels are visible. Some of the beta testers have 3 monitors and I always use two, with an effective resolution of 2560 by 1024. The size of a pixel never changes. For instance, all fonts are converted to 96 dpi.

I don't believe it is possible to cause MWIF's screen images to be distorted, though perhaps if you started the program with one resolution for your monitor(s) and then changed it while the program was running, you could get that effect.

And here I was feeling pretty smug about my recent acquisition of a second 22" widescreen flatpanel. [:D]

Thanks Steve for the info. I have seen the zoom images before.

Since fonts are very fickle on LCD monitors the ability to get a shot from a 1680x1050 monitor would be very helpfull. A good example of icky fonts on my end is Civ IV. The fonts when viewed out of native resolution have fuzzy edges but are very good in ntive resolution. Since fonts are a critical aspect of the counters it is therefore crucial for many people to see an actual image for their screen resolution in a sample of the zoom modes to ensure the counters will be readable.

I know you are way too busy to accomplish this. Perhaps it could be delegated to the beta testers or Patrice since he has access to the maps already.

I saw a partial screen shot on my iPhone today. It looked good.
