New Years Eve 1941 (Hawaii) New Years Day (Far East) 1942

The night turn began with landings at Pakhoi South China. We brought in an armored brigade to turn this situation around - but it needs another day to get ashore in force. Meanwhile - other forces are building fortifications in the Hanoi/Red River corredor - and we expect to win the entire area to Nanning. 90 casualties to beach defenses.
Pre dawn continuing landings involved 16 CD shots - no hits - and 121 more casualties to beach defenses.
A different TF also did pre dawn landings - 75 more casualties - but it is the same unit landing (a big unit).
A third TF also landed - remnants of a reserve regiment- 16 more casualties.

7 destroyers encountered and cleared mines at Lahaina. Lots of mineclearing this turn - more successful than is reasonable - but mines were also very effective - and sank one destroyer during the turn. There must be minelaying by many subs - or by the Argonaut - or both.
Another minefield was detected by landing craft at Hilo - but no hits scored. 40 casualties to landing by more of 6th Division. 6th Division is also landing at Kona (which we own) and so is an SNLF. This will be a bitter fight (becasuse of mountains, infantry backing up the CD unit, and AAA as well) - and the enemy cannot retreat - so must fight to the death.
4 DD cleared more mines at Lahaina.
A transport TF detected and cleared mines - but 3 ships were also hit by them. AK Choyo Maru, DD Araika, AP Haizen Maru - all on fire - the latter two with heavy damage.
An actual MSW TF detected mines and cleared many at Lahaina - but DE Kuritake hit two - and presumably that is the one that sank.

The day turn began with 4 Blenheims raiding Magwe Burma, doing no harm.
Later 4 Buffalos were equally unsuccessful.

36 Ki-21s raided Rangoon - causing 81 airfield related hits. 1 lost, 4 damaged by AAA fire.

5 B-17s raided Jolo - 12 Zeros on CAP shot 2 down and the rest bugged out.
Later 3 more raided - and failed to hit the target - but one Zero was shot down for 1 bomber destroyed and 1 damaged.

A repeat of the air battle over Borzya Siberia - with opposite results - 4 Claudes shot down entirely by I-16 biplanes! Turns out that the problem here was an automatic upgrade of a bomber unit - a default setting to attack - and the bombers - few in number due to being all damaged on upgrade - were heavily escorted. I withdrew the fighters and reassigned the bombers to recon some other place. Loses were almost identical for both sides - so possibly this incident can be backed down from.

8 ROCAF I-153s - ancient biplanes - caused 2 casualties and 1 gun lost to the 38th Division at Nanchang.
18 SB-2s did better - 27 casualties, 2 guns lost, 1 vehicle lost to the same unit. 1 bomber damaged.

7 B-17s (heavily escorted) caused 9 casualties and 1 gun lost to the 47th Heavy AAA regiment in Malaya - 1 bomber damaged.

A JAAF attack on the ROC 86th Field Army caused 69 casualties.
Another on the ROC 65th Field Army caused 16 casualties and 1 gun lost.
Another caused 8 more casualties to the same unit.
Another caused 20 casualties to the Red 15th Guerilla Regiment in North China.
Still another 6 more casualties to the same unit.
Another 33 casualties to the ROC 49th Field Army in Central China.
Another 20 casualties to the ROC 9th Field Army in the same area.
Another 18 casualties and 1 gun lost to the same unit.
Still another 8 more casualties to the same unit.
These attacks will escalate. We upgraded aircraft to more effective bombers in China yesterday - and as time passes we will increase air attrition of enemy forces there. The problem of the moment is supplies - since he is on LOC - we must focus on driving him off them.

21 Ki-21s and 8 Ki-32s caused 23 casualties to the 2nd Burma Brigade in Central Burma. The AVG put up 3 P-40s - and another unit put up a lone Hawk 75. 1 P-40 damaged by bomber defensive fire. 2 Ki-21s destroyed, 1 damaged.

16 Ki-48s caused 38 casualties and 1 gun lost to the Indian Army 38th Brigade in Malaya.

9 Bettys failed to harm the Philippine 21st Division at Olongapo/Bataan. 11 P-43s of the Philippine Air Force defended - damaging 1 Betty.

11 Ki-21s and 15 Vals from Lahaina supported by 20 Me-109s with bombs caused 50 casualties and 3 guns lost to the US 251st Coast AA Regiment at Hilo. 1 Me, 1 Val, 2 Ki-21s lost, 1 more of each damaged.
3 Ki-21s, 7 Vals and 6 Me-109s straggled in immediately after on the same target: no damage done. 1 Ki-21 lost, 1 damaged.

8 B-17s attacked 2 AKs at Brunei. Iwashiro Maru hit by 1 250 pound bomb. 4 Ki-43s and 3 Petes on CAP failed to do anything useful.
Later 3 B-17s came back in a coordinated strike joined by 3 Hudsons from Manado. They missed AK Bujun Maru. This time 10 Ki-43s and 3 Petes on CAP - 1 Hudson destroyed, 1 damaged; 2 B-17s damaged and all 3 bugged out without attacking; 1 Ki-43 damaged. Pretty good show for the Ki-43s - which only have 2 50 cal MGs. The Hudsons ran in at 100 feet - which is probably not permitted at this stage of the war - but presumably this new player does not know the convention that we don't do that until mid 1943 (with multi engine horizontal bombers).

Japanese ground bombardment on the Indochina border was ineffective.

Japanese ground bombardment at Nanchang was ineffective.

Japanese ground assault West of Nanking achieved 6:1 odds. 290 Japanese casualties, 6 guns lost. 295 Chinese casualties, 8 guns lost. The unit seems unable to retreat.
Japanese ground assault at Soochow achieved 17:1 odds. 82 Japanese casualties, 7 guns lost. 188 Chinese casualties, 8 guns lost. Same story - no retreat.
These units are too low on supplies to continue to attack and must wait for more to arrive. The enemy should not be able to resupply at all.

9000 Japanese attacked 6555 Chinese at Pakhoi (NOT including the armor landing there) - 0:1 odds, Fort Level 3, 138 Japanese casualties, 5 guns lost, 2 vehicles lost. 56 Chinese casualties, 2 vehicles lost.
Allied ground bombardment at Pakhoi was ineffective.

Japanese ground bombardment at Manila caused 16 Allied casualties and 2 guns lost.
Japanese ground bombardment at Clark was ineffective.

Chinese ground assault at Nanchang failed to achieve odds (Fort Level 2): 61 Japanesae casualties, 3 guns lost, 1 vehicle lost. 651 Chinese casualties, 4 guns lost.

Allied ground bombardment at Hilo was ineffective.

Undefended Madang New Guinea fell to a naval landing party.

2 Jan 1942 (Hawaii) 3 Jan (Far East)

The night turn began with landings at Hilo - opposed by mines and CD guns. DD Akebono hit a mine. CD guns attempted to engage but failed to shoot (whatever that means - failed to solve the fire control problem).
Later 6 CD shots fired - no hits. 22 Japanese casualties to beach defenses.

Landings at Pakhoi South China continued. 74 CD shots fired - no hits. 78 Japanese casualties, 1 vehicle lost.
Later 14 more CD shots fired - no hits - 67 more casualties.

DMS Trevor continued minesweeping at Canton Island. Later she was joined by DD Bagley clearing more mines.

6 IJN DD ran into mines at Lahaina - and Akebono hit one of them. Many were cleared. It looks like subs are continuing to lay more mines at Hilo and Lahaina. One MSW unit is not up to clearing them all in a timely way.

ML Krakatau was torpedoed by Ro-44 at Soerabaja.

PG Napa detected mines at Muntok, Banka Island.

River gunboat bombardment in China failed - twice - to get any result - so it looks like DM and DMS don't bombard as hoped.

4 IJN DD attcked USS Gar at Lahaina - and unsually scored 2 hits.
Later an MSW and 3 DE tried again - but missed.
Gar then torpedoed DE Wakatake - and counterattacks still missed teh sub.
Gar tried one more time on Wakatake - but torpedoes failed to detonate. Counterattacks still failed to harm her.

40 JAAF fighters of two types swept Meiktila Burma - but no CAP was encountered.

7 B-17s attacked Brunei. 4 Ki-43 and 3 Petes on CAP damaged one of them. No damage to any target.

4 Bettys destroyed, 7 damaged (by Flak). 7 P-35s and 1 B-17 destroyed on the ground. 37 Allied casualties. 35 other hits.
Next 11 Ju-88s came in on the same target - escorted by 162 Zeros and in company with a Ki-46 recon plane. Still 8 P-43s on CAP.
All 8 shot down. 1 P-35 and 2 B-17s destroyed on the ground. 8 other hits. 4 Ju-88s lost, 3 damaged.

3 Jan 1942 (Hawaii) 4 Jan (Far East)

The night turn began with continuing landings at Pakhoi South China. CD guns attempted to engage but got off no shots. 51 casualties to beach defenses and landing operations.
Later landings involved no casualties - because all troops were ashore probably - so just supplies.

IJN DD Satsuki and Habiki encountered and cleared mines at Lahaina. Most Japanese forces stood out to sea while aircraft hunted submarines - and as we shall see - damaged ships under repair. One TF was already in port - and it continued landing troops. These DD were escorts for two APs landing remnants of a unit - because they could land during the night before most probable sub attacks were made - and already docked ships are not at risk to mines. His mine and torpedo attacks have been excessively expensive - and we cannot afford to avoid these ports - but we can route evasively - and we can let time cause attrition to his submarines - which he is using to deliver these weapons.

Allied PG Napa encontered and cleared a mine at Muntok, Banka Island.

DE Tsuga detected, engaged and hit SS020 multiple times with multiple weapons. She was joined by 5 DD - one of which also scored twice with DC. Total 6 hits - and this just the opening engagement - 2 from 'three inch ASW mortars' - a weapon unlikely to score at all and which I have never actually seen work before - 2 by DC from Tsuga (patterns of 9 - good for Japan at this stage of the war) - and 2 by DC from DD (patterns of 2 or 4 - far more common). This is the beginning of a long day for O-20 - and also for the Allies.

Troops landed at Maasin Leyte - a mistake - and in spite of deliberately setting "do not land" yesterday to the TF - the first clear case of AI changing this setting. 185 casualties. This TF is headed for a different place but had to use a waypoint for proper routing.

Landings began at Lae - 20 casualties. The New Guinea Volunteer Regiment is hear - a weak unit with few guns.

Ro-44 torpedoed and sank ML Gouden Leeuw at Soerabaja. Two hits.

Post by el cid again »

The day turn began with air recon of Pakhoi and indecisive sweeping of Meiktila Burma - no CAP - but if there was we wanted to clear the way for later bomber raids. 41 JAAF bombers of two types were in the sweep.

9 B-17D out of Sinkawang raided Brunei. We increased CAP a bit so 5 Ki-43s and 3 Petes engaged. This was expensive - 2 Ki-43s were shot down engaging. They "only" damaged two B-17s in the effort. But they achieved their mission objective - all 9 bombers - in 2 squadrons - bugged out and none engaged targets on the ground or in the water - we don't even know what they were targeting - except his pattern is to attack the port.

9 JAAF bombers of two types - including one on recon - hit PH strongly escorted by 51 Me-109s and supported by 9 Ki-44s in LRCAP over the target. This raid out of Lahaina was meant to be part of a 1-2 punch hunting ships in port - already damaged - to take them out or cripple them so badly they can never get away - and also to eat supply points feeding AAA and ship repairs. This succeeded beyond expectation - and turned into a 1-2-3 punch - as we shall see. 4 P-40Bs and 1 P-36 on CAP. 1 P-36 and 6 P-40s destroyed in the air or on the Ground (2 P-36s did penetrate the CAP to engage bombers). One 50 kg bomb hit on each of 5 ships: CL Helena, AR Vestal, AVD Thornton, SS Nautils and AV Curtiss. 1 runway hit. 7 of the 9 JAAF bombers in the raid were damaged - but miraculously (as we will see) none were lost.

KB came in with a morning raid (round 2) immediately thereafter: 72 Kates - all armed with 800 kg bombs in this instance - escorted by 65 Zeros and 18 Me-109s (don't ask what happened to the Ki-44 LRCAP - they were out joyriding or maybe went home to get fuel) - came in. Only 1 P-36 remained on CAP - but 3 Allied fighters were lost in the air or on the ground - 1 P-40 and 2 P-36s. Two 800 kg bomb hits on AV Tangier and one each on SS Pompano and SS Argonaut. 1 Port hit. 14 Kates destroyed and 12 more damaged.

A JAAF raid in North China caused 15 casualties to the Red 43rd Guerilla Regiment.
Another caused 46 casualties and 1 gun lost to the same unit.
Another caused 26 casualties and 1 gun lost to the same unit.
Still another caused 15 casualties to the same unit.
This is how to do it - each raid weakens the morale of the target unit as well as weakens its absolute strength - and now it is set up for a ground assault.

The problem ROC 25th Field Army - unable to move - but on a critical RR LOC - was hit by a massive JAAF raid by 56 bombers of 3 types - 111 Chinese casualties and 1 gun lost. This out of supply unit also demoralized by air raids and days of combat normally would retreat when assaulted at odds - but this one cannot - so we are working up for a surrender. It is hard to say how long that will take - but Sun Tzu is right - enemies unable to retreat fight three times as hard.

A JAAF raid by 9 Ki-49s failed to harm the Kwangtung 65th Field Army. It happens. Happened to early B-29 raids regularly IRL.
The Ki-49 is not yet in service - or even in production. These are rare and valuable pre war pre production machines - which I rationalize are still teething.

Afternoon JAAF raids on the Red 15th Guerilla Regiment and Red 27th Guerilla Regiment - both in North China - caused zero and 10 casualties respectively. We are building up to expel them from a production center - as we will see.
Another afternoon raid on the ROC 9th Field Army farther South caused 7 casualties.

A JAAF attack on the Philippine Army First Regular Division at Manila went horribly wrong: only 5 casualties on the ground but 3 Army Kates (Ki-47s) destroyed and 2 damaged by AAA. 5 Me-109s were escorting. This raid out of now built up Aparri air base.

Recon spotted a transport TF at Singapore yesterday - either bringing in troops or more likely taking them out - and possibly bringing in supplies. We set air units to engage - and the first of these finally got its act together in the afternoon. Sort of together - 22 Ki-48s came in unescorted. They met 14 Buffalos on CAP. The CAP was fortunately ineffective, but one bomber lost to the strong AAA in the hex. Two APs (Moreton Bay and Machdui) were hit by 100 pound cluster bombs (simulating hits by 3 different 15 kg or 33 pound bombs - which is what the Ki-48 carries in large numbers). A third AP was missed.
3 stragglers came in (also from Kota Bahru) - and did far worse: 1 lost, 1 damaged, and in spite of penetration missing an AP. Those 14 Buffalos were still not up to the job of getting them. Maybe they were demoralized?

KB sent in an afternoon strike on PH - round 3. 70 Vals, 48 Kates, 31 Zeros and 17 Me-109s - the LRCAP Ki-44s still being mysteriously absent. No CAP at all - it was driven from the sky in rounds 1 and 2. Still - AAA was bad (it always is at PH) - 15 Vals and 6 Kates shot down, 16 and 5 damaged. But they scored big time - mostly with 800 kg and 250 kg bombs - but also a few 60 kg bombs (these latter on weak AKs so they were effective):

Allied Ships
CL Helena, Bomb hits 8, on fire, heavy damage
SS Pollack, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
SS Triton, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AVD Avocet, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
SS Nautilus, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
SS Tautog, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
SS Gudgeon, Bomb hits 2, on fire
AR Pyro, Bomb hits 4, on fire, heavy damage
SS S-34, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
SS Argonaut, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
AS Pelias, Bomb hits 2
SS S-23, Bomb hits 1, on fire
AR Medusa, Bomb hits 1
AV Tangier, Bomb hits 4, on fire, heavy damage
AV Curtiss, Bomb hits 2, on fire
SS Thresher, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AK SMM Sakhalinska, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AK Aroostook, Bomb hits 2
AVD Hulbert, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AR Rigel, Bomb hits 1, heavy damage
AR Argonne, Bomb hits 1

Port hits 8
Port fuel hits 1

Note that every target was hit.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11E vs PDavis: A pretty good day for Japan 3 Jan 1942

Post by el cid again »

Late in the afternoon 18 Kates - with a whole squadron of 16 Zeros in company - go lost and went to Hilo - scoring a undesireable port hit (we want the port undamged). 1 bomber damaged by AA fire. Things go wrong. For both sides - at the end of the day CL Helena and 4 submarines sank at PH. So did a Japanese AK at Lahaina - it flooded out from mine damage.

15 more Ki-48s came in on Singapore again - this time with 7 Zeros in company. Still 14 Buffalos on CAP. But all the fighters on both sides were there only for show - and achieved nada. 1 Ki-48 lost to AA fire - as usual. Four hits on AP Macdhui - which eventually sank from this and other bomb damage - and two more AP missed.

Poor O-20 ran into DE Tsuga and her 5 supporting DDs again - and took 2 more hits - one by a DD. They are learning.
Really learning - they immediately re engaged - and got two more hits - setting O-20 on fire - and taking out her forward torpedo tubes.
A bad day for O-20 - which must go home under days of air attacks. Bet she does not make it. All this near Cam Ranh Bay. The nearest good port is Sinkawang.

The oddessy of the AP force at Singapore continued as Ro-24 got into the act- torpedoing AP Raranga.

Japanese ground bombardment at Nanchang Central China caused 2 Chinese casualties, 1 gun lost.
Japanese ground assault at Soochow next to Singapore failed to achieve odds by a small 1600 man unit and cost 15 Japanese casualties and 2 guns lost. This was a mistake - no attack was planned.

147 000 Japanese engaged two weak Chinese guerilla regiments at Yanku in North China - expelling them. 304 : 1 odds. 14 Japanese casualties, 364 Chinese casualties, 3 guns lost. These units had few survivors.

Japanese ground bombardment at Pakhoi South China was ineffective.

40 000 Japanese did a test attack at Manila - no joy - no odds vs 53 000 defenders. 780 Japanese casualties, 29 guns lost, 8 vehicles lost. 77 Allied casualties, 4 guns lost.
Allied ground bombardment at Manila was ineffective.

Japanese ground bombardment at KL caused 16 Allied casualties.

Allied ground bombardment at Pakhoi caused 3 Japanese casualties, 1 gun lost. It revealed 6274 Allies in 3 units ve 15553 Japanese also in 3 units.

Allied ground bombardment of 6th Division plus 6th SNLF at Hilo was ineffective.

4 January 1942 (Hawaii) 5 January (Far East) Both (Midway area)

The night turn began with DMS Trevor continuing to clear mines at Canton Island.
This continued in the day turn.

Japanese mineclearing continued at Hilo by an MSW unit and DE Kiji.
In spite of which an LCM unit (2 company of 26th Shipping Transportation Regiment) hit a mine at Hilo - and also 19 CD shots were fired at it.
32 casualties.

The same IJN MSW TF from Hilo returned to Lahaina and cleared more mines there in the day part of the night turn.
Two other TFs encountered mines - escorts clearing them - also at Lahaina - but DD Yugure hit one.

A micro air battle occurred at Kiukang - 4 Ki-27s and 5 Ki-153 biplanes all missing each other.
Later 3 Ki-27s and 4 I-153s went at it again - with equal lack of success.

A large sweep of Mietkila Burma by 41 JAAF fighters of 2 types met no CAP to engage.

6 B-17s got one port hit at Brunei. 7 Ki-43s and 3 Petes on CAP only managed to damage one of them.

A major raid out of Lahaina hit PH port again - 28 Army Kates, 11 Ki-21s - 3 Ki-49 recon planes - escorted by 39 JNAF fighters of 2 types come in. No CAP. 17 hits on 11 ships with 50 and 250 kg bombs. 4 SS, 1 AO, 2 AR, 1 AV, 1 AVD, 1 DD. 7 bombers destroyed, 20 damaged. 4 0ther port related hits.

14 ROCAF SB-2s caused 5 casualties to the First Tank Brigade at Pakhoi, South China. 4 were damaged by AA. One Ki-27 on CAP.
16 more, plus 6 SB-2Ms, 9 Blenheims, 5 B-24s and 15 B-17s out of Chunking caused 43 more casualties, 2 guns lost and 4 vehicles lost to the same unit. No CAP - no AA damage.

14 British bombers of 2 types failed to harm the 4th Independent Mixed Regiment in Burma.

A JAAF raid failed to harm the ROC 25th Field Army.
Another caused 31 casualties and 1 gun lost to the same unit.
Annother caused 27 casualties to the Kwangtung 65th Field Army.
Yet another caused 1 casualty and 1 gun lost to the same unit.
Another caused 46 casualties to the Red 15th Guerilla Regiment.
Another caused 8 more to the same unit.
Another on the same unit was ineffective.
So was a final one on the ROC 9th Field Army.

24 Dutch bombers of 2 types, escorted by 2 Hawks and 20 AVG P-40s - failed to harm
the 35th Engineer Aviation Battalion in Burma.

12 Vildebeeste missed CLAA Kashima and DE Shiokaze in the South China Sea. 6 bombers damaged by AA fire.
6 more missed CL Izuzu and DD Harukaze - 1 bomber shot down, 2 damaged.

USN PT unit 74/75/76 ran in on Lahaina. It met 13 escorts in an ASW TF - 13 DD and a DE - and was sunk by them.

USN Sub Tarpon failed to damage AK Siraha Maru at Davao. CLAA Yasoshima and DD Matsukase failed to harm the sub.

36 000 Japanese failed to achieve odds on 12 000 Allies West of Nanking. 340 Japanese casualties, 14 guns lost. 72 Allied casualties, 3 guns lost. Supply was the cause. Not sure why those 12 000 troops - utterly without supply under attack for many days - are not in trouble?

Japanese ground bombardment at Nanchang caused 78 Allied casualties, 7 guns lost. Good shooting.

15 000 Japanese failed to achieve odds on 8 000 Chinese at Pakhoi South China - 190 Japanese casualties, 12 guns lost. 25 Chinese casualties. Disruption and supply were probably factors.

Japanese ground bombardment at Manila caused 32 Allied casualties and 1 gun lost.

47 000 Japanese captured KL. 3:1 odds. 31, 467 Allied casualties, 2 guns lost, 3757 vehicles lost.

Allied ground bombardment at Pakhoi South China was ineffective.
One hex away 2 Chinese units drove a Japanese artillery unit to its assembly point on the Indochina frontier with China (thanks) - 81:1 odds, 19 Japanese casualties, 2 gns lost, 2 Chinese casualties, 1 gun lost.

Allied ground bombardment at Manila caused 10 Japanese casualties.

Allied ground bombardment at Hilo caused 10 ALLIED casualties, 1 gun lost but NO Japanese casualties. Counterbattery fire??? Ammo dump explosion???

5 Jan 1942 (Hawaii) 6 Jan (Far East) Both (Midway area)

The night turn began with DMS Trevor and DD Bagley clearing more mines at Canton Island.

2 co 26th Shipping Transportation Regiment- returning to Lahaina after landing troops and hitting mines at Hilo -
took 3 torpedoes (never mind they would pass below) - and 2 shells fron USN sub USS Trout.
A large MSW TF then cleared mines at the same location, but since it is mostly made of escort ships, it was a high risk op - and DD Hayate hit a mine.
The same MSW TF detected, engaged and hit twice USN submarine Tambor.

ROCAF raided Nanchang - and 3 of the 5 I-153s were shot down by AAA - no idea what the target was?

6 B-17s scored 5 port related hits at Brunei. 7 fighters of 2 types on CAP achieved nothing.

16 Nells out of Rabaul caused 11 casualties to the New Guinea Volunteer Regiment at Lae.
16 more out of Truk failed to harm the same unit.

20 Ki-21s caused 47 casualties and 3 Veicles lost to the CW Nauru Industry Fortress unit.

6 T-IVa, 10 B-18s and 24 AVG - P-40s attacked the 4th Independent Infantry Brigade in Burma - causing 11 casualties and 1 gun lost.

12 TBDs out of Oahu caght retiring, damaged ML Syoka Maru - and scored 3 x 250 kg bomb iths.

4 B-18s missed AK Kogi Maru South of Hawaii.
2 more missed AK Choyo Maru.

A Japanese landing force encountered (Japanese) mines at Nauru island - missed them - and suffered 297 casualties over the beach.

Lae was captured by an SNLF with 59:1 odds. 5 casualties on both sides. The NVGR retreated to Wau.

Japanese ground assault at Hilo again failed - no odds - 803 Japanese casualties, 14 guns lost, 89 Allied casualties, 6 guns lost.

Japanese ground assault at Nanchang failed to achieve odds - 720 Japanese casualties, 11 guns lost, 2 vehicles lost. 438 Chinese casualties, 2 guns lost.

Japanese ground bombardment at Manila caused 71 Allied casualties, 1 gun lost.

10 000 Japanese captured Miektila Burma from 3300 Allies - 2:1 odds - 13 Japanese casualties, 40 Allied casalties, 3 guns lost.

Allied ground bombardment at Pakhoi South China was ineffective.

So was Allied ground bombardment at Manila.

So was Allied ground bombardment at Hilo.

Japanese shock attack at Soochow China achieved 69:1 odds - but no surrender. 229 Japanese casualties, 4 guns lost. 194 Allied casualties, 6 guns lost.

10,000 Japanese at Magwe forced 2100 Allies to retreat down a jungle trail. 2:1 odds. 199 Japanese casualties. 27 Allied casualties, 2 guns lost.

Japanese shock attack at Nauru island failed - but only the allies suffered losses - 41 casualties, 1 vehicle lost. This because it is only almost unarmed civilians defending the place.
