CAP Question - No TRES

Post by Capt Henry_MatrixForum »

My pbem is in mid 1943 and all of my carriers (except Wasp) have upgraded to the 36-plane VF squadrons. Some carriers have also upgraded to a single VB squadron of 36 planes as well. My question is this, within two days of leaving port and a 60% CAP setting, about 25% of my fighters are listed as damaged. All squadrons have between 7 and 11 planes disabled. I don't think I've seen a number go higher than 14, but I've never seen a number go down, even after a week at sea. I'd never seen this before and am curious as if I'm doing something wrong to cause this. We're playing CHS, and I think its 157.

Thanks in advance.

One of the CHS versions has very high operational damage rates.

...and it's probably scen. 157, the one I'm playing. With your CAP set at 60% the damage levels you're experiencing come as no suprise to me. All part of the fun of limiting your operational casualties and maximising availability in this mod. The important question will be how many VF you have operational upon contact with the Japanese. Depending upon your perceived exposure to attack you may be able to maintain lower CAP levels until the threat level goes up.

I am limiting the CAP level to try to conserve fighters for the KB. Actually, I'm probably done exposing the CVs for a bit as I'm just about to get Hellcats. That and the fact that a long range escorted Betty strike put two torpedoes into Enterprise (causing only 17 system damage to the Big E but 75 system damage to me) have got me backing off for a bit. All the Japanese carriers are still afloat and the only carrier vs carrier engagement we've had took place outside my strike range so was a bit one sided. Hermes suffered serious damage while all other carriers are still operational. The only good point is that Japanese carrier pilot losses should have been heavy.
