Austrian Insurrection Changes in 1.05!
Hey guys:
A little FYI that I changed the Insurrection feature drastically to help make it an advantage as opposed to a liability. I have also updated the game manual per below:
The Austrian player will now have the ability to set an area as an “Insurrection Trigger” area. This is done by selecting the “Insurrection Toggle” button in the lower left phase button panel. This will enable an area as a trigger or disable (If already enabled) the area. The Austrian player may set up to 3 areas as Insurrection trigger areas. These areas will immediately halt any enemy movement when the units enter the area. At this time then ALL Insurrection units will become available for placement during the next reinforcement phase. Any area in Austria’s home nation can be set as a trigger area as long as the Insurrections corps are not placed or ready to be placed. All insurrection areas will be shaded in white and will only be visible to the Austrian player!

Sounds like a great idea. One question: Why only three areas?

Well, I orignally looked at a number of areas bordering MPs (~6) but then pulled back knowing that I can set these in ANY Austrian province and not just bordering provinces. A little give and take. I've got flexibility in this number so I can change later but it will certainly be better than it is today.

Can you do the same with the Dardanelles ? Toggle area letting boats goes by or not from the Turks, if they control Constantinople.

Will Austrian AI in v1.05 use this new feature (it will need some logic checks, for better or worse) or at least keep using the old "automatic" feature? Don't want to lose the insurrection corps with the change, like if the AI won't set any areas at all.

It should be setting these areas in 1.05
RE: Austrian Insurrection Changes in 1.05!
"Border provinces", in the old rules, included all of the land area east of (and including) Hungary, except the Galicias. Are you limiting it to AREAS which border enemies? Or, to PROVINCES which border enemies?
Also, I would use (if playing Austria on the board game) a two-tiered strategy: Let a couple of enemy corps move inland, and then stop the one with the leader when that corps arrives. If the guy was fool enough to move THREE spaces into my territory, I would have stopped the leader's corps wherever, and then all other corps just behind that one.
Granted, an enemy could trip me up by moving the leader's corps first. Well, no, that wouldn't work, either.
Anyhow, it was a major collection of tactical steps when someone moved into Austria-East for the first time. A pretty little "chess game" of sorts. They weren't just troops; they were a way to completely disrupt the enemy's plans for a whole month, and he knew it.
Usually, the Turks (generally the nation involved) would move one area at a time, leaving corps on each space behind the army. That dynamic is lost with the current setup. Turkey can charge right through, once he finds a path (or, slaughter the I-corps as soon as it shows up).
Still needs work, I think, but it's a step in the right direction.

One of the main problems was the fact that they would be able to eat the Insurrection corps as it is today. Now at least the Austrian gets a chance to place them where he wants to.

RE: Austrian Insurrection Changes in 1.05!
I have to say that it still doesn't quite work for me.
As Jimmer pointed out, the advantage of the Austrian insurrection corps was that they could be placed when the enemy had moved a few corps through the area already. That would (a) stop the leader's corps joining his troops and (b) more importantly, cut supply.
How much of a stretch would it be to say:
* The austrian player marks the insurrection corps area.
* The austrian player marks, for each area, how many corps can pass through that area before the corps triggers. e.g. mark the insurrection area as "3" and when the third enemy corps appears in that area, the inssurection corps appears.

Pretty dang good stretch :-0
We will need to find different ways of abstracting.
Your method will have to be a little more detailed i.e. 3 Russian corps and/or 3 Turkish corps.
RE: Austrian Insurrection Changes in 1.05!
Even if you implemented just "X enemy corps", that would be a step forward. But, like I say, what you are putting in now is a good step forward, too. Both would be even better, but don't take a chance on slipping a release date for it.

Marshall
We are about to start a game.
Can you tell me:
Will this work with all existing games? or only new games
Can we change the trigger zones in reinforcement or some phase????
