great! My MSW decided to quit doing their work today and when you have a TF with escorts entering a hex with mines you happen to get this: PG xy locates and destroys a mine... PG yx locates and destroys a mine... 50 times more of the same until boooom AP hits a mine... boooom AP hits another mine... lol

The MSW did nothing the whole day... there was a patch that made minesweeping not what it was before as the MSW just stop at a certain point to do anything... [8|]

I guess the next two or three attacks should bring the unconditional surrender of the Chinese troops at Changsha... We have spotted 5 Chinese units marching from Sian to Homan today. 800+ assault points behind level 5 forts are waiting for them at Homan. Doubt that the Chinese will be able to achieve something here, but 800 assault points won´t be enough to drive them back out though if they decide to siege the base. Doesn´t matter, there is no industry so the Chinese can sit there as long as they want to do so...

I've never seen subs be so annoying as to sit in base hexes, thats pretty rough when ASW forces are rather inept.

On an almost unrelated topic, in my Me vs. AI game yesterday my minelaying at baker island paid off when the CV Yorktown ran into a mine on Feb 3 '42. [:D]

I happen to be playing Miller in a game, with myself as the Allies.

Methinks I'll take a page from this & put subs in all of his ports.  He never touched Manila in the opening turn, and I have a metric ton of un-touched subs on full sortie out of the base [:D]  Maybe I can give him a head ache in return for what he is doing to me [;)]
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Nice update.[:)]  Could you tell which units are bagged in Bataan, or in Manilla ?  649 AV after a battle retreat, this must be quite a few divs & RCT.

And shouldn't you start putting some of those Sallies on naval search/ASW duty ?  It's just a wild suggestion, but if the subs really are in the same hex as a base, you should get many sightings (raising DL) and some (hopefully successful) attacks.  Or do you have a house rule against putting Army bombers on NS/ASW ?
It's a good thing you sunk so many subs in Manilla & Pearl Harbor, seeing how annoying the survivors are now.[&o]

They did not surrender at the loss of the base ?  They deserve a medal...

no idea what units exactly surrendered at Bataan but there were a lot. IIRC two dozen units surrendered including different TK, inf and eng units. In Manila are sitting two or three PA divs and support units, all in all some 500 assault points. Those units will be starved, I´m not interested in killing them off with assaults in urban terrain.

I was thinking about using a couple of Sally sentais but I´m still needing them on the front. We have no hr on it but I also don´t want to "overuse" them on ASW, so as soon as I have secured the whole SRA we will have perhaps some 150 IJA bombers spread out over the whole area flying nav search. Max 1 daitai at a base with the bases not overlapping.

I know what I always achieve with my subs already early on and I can´t understand why people argue that subs, better say the US fleet subs, are useless until mid 43. They do work just fine and I always sink a lot of ships with MK14 torps in the first year of the war. Of course you also see enough duds, but sinking 100 ships with subs is IMO definetely better than using the subs for minelaying or have them sit in port.

The Dutch troops at Macassar didn´t surrender because they could retreat North as they did have a valid supply path to a base in the North. Doesn´t matter...

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [:@][:@]

I hate this bug! I know that the game tends to unload troops even if you set your TFs to "do not unload". Well, I´ve checked my three TFs that are going in at least five times if they are all set to "do not unload" and they were. Nevertheless, the TF with the support troops unloaded at the wrong base... [8|]

it only unloaded during the night phase, which clearly shows that it was NOT set to "unload". When I´ve checked the TF it was still set to "do not unload". Great...

Japanese forces CAPTURE Merak base !!!

this is the base WEST of Batavia where our TFs are heading and will arrive tomorrow. A contingent of the Yokosuka 2 captured the empty base and our TFs can unload safely. Miller garrisoned nearly all coast bases on Java and while I normally like to land at Kragen (NE of Soerabaja) to cut Java in two, he moved a unit there. Java will be a cakewalk, the only downside is the bug that unloaded my support troops on the wrong island for one phase of last turn...

as you can see, I´ve ordered my two divisions to retreat back to Mandalay. Unbelievable, but they were not able to take the base at acceptable losses and the enemy is moving in more troops via the trail from the North. Well, I´m also moving in fresh units, two more divs are coming with APs from Singapore. 1600 assault points should then be enough to take the base at acceptable losses...

that was easy and our first defensive perimeter is growing South into the Pacific. To compensate the anger about the sub attacks, we make progress on the continent. Changsha is lost and over 100.000 Chinese troops surrender - worth some 800 victory points. Miller stated in his email that he was surprised that his troops didn´t retreat! [X(] This base got surrounded some 4 weeks ago! [X(] As are the other two bases in the South with another 200.000+ Chinese troops surrounded already I wonder what he will do now! Amazing...

Miller told me that ground warfare isn´t what he´s really good in, unfortunately for him, this will really make him pay in China. I´m not planning on wiping the Chinese out completely but reduce them to only two or three bases to make them an unimportant factor...

lol! After yesterdays attack I thought that Miller will realize that this TF was directly heading towards Truk so I did set the original TF and the AP that was hit yesterday to a different destination to move from the direct shipping lane to Truk. Well, the enemy sub moved also away from the direct shipping lane to Truk... Luck or is Miller transcendental...

what´s now happening?? [&:] Miller spotted three of my units moving in yesterday and it seems he ordered an attack for today. Pretty surprising as he has to expect that I´m not just moving in two small NLF with 20 assault points and there were another dozen units at Merak that could be expected to arrive today. Well, he met three full divisions and support, the Allied attack is shredded! Excellent, hopefully this has disrupted the Allied so much that my upcoming attack won´t result in oil or resource centers destroyed by the Allied defender.

I think Miller is new to this game, so you need to take that into account.

I can say in our PBEM, I did the same thing to him and put a sub in every port, as well as in every landing I can reach ( I'm Allies).  It has put a serious dent in his transport capacity over the last few days.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

When Miller does his milkruns daily then he just has to expect my fighters from Mandalay to show up over Lashio. Even though the Allied fighters had the bounce (how this works is beyond me as the Allied fighters are at 9.000 ft and mine are at 15.000 ft [8|]) the gap in experience is so big that the AVG once again gets pretty much slaughtered in Nikmod terms... this is a combined strike out of China and India...

this strike comes from India, the Australian Buffalos aren´t doing any better than the American Tomahawks. But also here, the Allied fighters get the bounce, even though also the Buffs are flying 6.000 ft below our fighters on LRCAP... [8|] high hopes that AE will get this game routine right... in WITP it never worked... not a single time...

a good day for our fighters, the downside is that we lose 5 pilots out of the 6 Oscars lost, even though we were fighting over our own base...

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

after the shredded Allied attack yesterday it´s no surprise that our troops have no problem at all to take the base today. The absolutely good news is that the oil and ressource facilities are 100% undamaged!!!! BANZAI! BANZAI! BANZAI!

Hengchow has a pretty strong enemy garisson but has been cut off for a couple of weeks already. Would guess that the defneders have some 7-10.000 supplies at the base. At the moment we have problems to get our troops in Southern China fully supplied, it seems our ongoing attacks at Changsha burnt A LOT of supplies. Bringing in 20-30k of supplies won´t make it much different as the supply would soon be dispersed in all of China, we need at least 100.000 supplies to get our assaults on Hengchow and Wuchow in the South going (we need time for r&r of the divs anyway). In the meantime the enemy forts will be built up to level 9 I guess but also their supply levels will go down drastically. Nikmod has the Japanese industry starting at pretty low levels so I had to expand a lot of factories, especially aircraft and engines, but also arm and vehicle. This has put my supply levels in Japan to serioulsy low levels, which means that the supply for my offensives has to mostly come from my conquered territory already. I´m happy that I was able to conquer nearly all of the important oil and ressource sites completely undamaged, which is something I´m not used to. It´s no problem for the assaults like in Java or the Pacific because there aren´t really huge armies involved, but the supply situation makes it pretty hard to fight further on in China for some time. IIRC the supply levels started out over 3.000.000 on day one of the war and I´m now down to 1.800.000 (which isn´t much if you think about all the bases it is spread out). With the supply produced in the two months of the war you can see that we´ve spent A LOT of supply to expand our industry. I expect the supply levels to grow from now on...

wow! I´ve thought we would have no problem at all to take the base on the first attempt. At least the assault value 0 base force can´t inflict a lot of casualties. Our NLF unit has nearly 2000 supplies and is only at 18 disruption, I´ve ordered a deliberate attack for tomorrow. I doubt that the Allied base force can put up a prolonged fight...
