Effective airstrikes

Post by Voriax »

Here's something for you who think that airstrikes are inefficient Image

While testing Wild Bill's campaign there came a battle where I had 6 aircraft. I hope WB forgives me for the slight spoiler of telling the ac types and what they killed.
I should also mention that the troop quality etc. preferences were at the default settings except arty vs armour at 70%, which makes it even harder for aircraft, afaik.
Well...never mind the ac types actually, but all were rocket carrying planes with exp leves between 75 and 95.

I got 24 strafes out of them before the battle ended and I still had all those ac available for further strikes, even though they only had mg/cannon ammo left.

The results:

Nashorn, killed
Stug III, killed
Brummbar, immobilized
Jagdpanther, killed
Stug III, killed
Brummbar, killed
Jagdpanther, killed
Stug III, hits from cannons
Stug III, missed
Stug III, damaged, crew bailed out
Marder, immobilized
Marder, suspension damaged
251/10 HT, killed
Truck, hit from mg's
Flakpanzer, top hit from mg's
Flammpanzer, killed
5 strikes at mortar positions
StuH-42, hit from cannons, twice
Stuh-42, missed

Impressive or what? Image As you can see I was running out of targets at the end. Of course there was some collateral damage as infantry took some casualties and those mortars probably lost some men too.

Yeah, those ground attack specialists (P-38's, I would guess) can actually be (OOB)cost-effective, especially when there's not much or any AA fire Image.

Ground attack? Hell, I've had P-51D's with rockets (definitely not ground attack specialists Image destroy two platoons of panthers within a few turns. I gave that one up Image.

Thanx for the info Voriax. Maybe I should have more faith in those airstrikes. Of course you need to know which ac to use.
