I just got this game and have some issues. . .HELP!!!

Post by bobadon »

Ok there are a few issues i have

1. When playing detailed battles before the fght starts it says CSA 32,405 USA 16,034
then the battle starts and the union has just as many or even more men units then I do.

Whats the deal with that BS? I thought at first that I might just have bigger units but then I noticed that my units are graphically larger or smaller based on the number of men, and the union units are all full of guys. And my 30,000 men are not even on the field!!!! What am i doing wrong? The fight listed above was the one I am refering to but it happens every time.

2. Its very buggy, keeps freezing or not responding if I click certain spots on the game, I run vista that might be the issue.

3. How do I get new weapons, most of my brigades are improvised weapons.

Is this the first battle you fight? Also, watch for the quick pop up that says "Union reinforcements arriving". It show up really fast and the AI tends to hang way back until the entire force arrives.

I am running Vista 64bit and have not really had any issues. So I doubt it is Vista causing this.

When you are on the strategic map, your unit is not in the same area as an enemy unit, click on the improvised weapon picture.......it will pull up a menu with weapons you can purchase.......they will be available the moment you click end turn. You can also click the little blue boxes (there are 2 of them) right beside the weapon and purchase extra's.......like pioneers (allows you to dig in), sharpshooters, medical etc.

I have found that I will have an issue if in detailed battle if I click or hit space bar while the computer is taking it's turn. Now, I always wait until no combat resolution or anything is occuring before I do anything. Wait until your unit is awaiting command (you see the movement gris etc.

Bobadon,
2ndACR is no doubt correct that reinforcements arrived, making the enemy force much larger. And he's said what you need to know about purchasing new guns, other than that you should consult the manual (especially the appendix).

As for the business of the game being buggy, please say what you're clicking on, and also let us know how much memory you're playing with. The game has been out for two years -- tomorrow is its "birthday," in fact -- and we're not getting any reports of this sort of thing. And people have been playing on Vista since soon after Vista came out, and no Vista-related issues have been reported. So it would be helpful to know a few more specifics about what you're seeing.

Hi Gil, on my small issues, it is when I hit the space bar etc usually by accident when the computer is executing it's orders etc. The small "busy spiral will come up on the cursor and then it will drop me to the strategic map. And I have to play ALT TAB games to get back to the detailed battle for a few turns. No problems unless I mess up though.

Windows Vista Home Premier 64bit on quad core with 6 gigs Ram. So it is not memory issue. 9800GT vid card with 512mb video. So no video issue. I have no true complaints.

I'll mention it to Eric. But of course, one isn't supposed to hit any keys while the computer is processing, as you note. First time I've heard of this happening, though.
