Fustrated and disappointed

Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge is a turn-based strategy that puts you command of a squad of specialists for hire in the genre’s biggest game-world yet: the African country Diamond Coast. Diamond Coast is a playground for the cruel and corrupt, each with their own agenda. Choose your friends wisely and buy an army of ruthless mercenaries to unleash mayhem on your foes. Choose “jobs” from different factions and complete them for cash to upgrade your weapons and hire more elite soldiers of fortune.

Fustrated and disappointed

Post by hydropod »

Well I got the game, played it for 2 days now, and just like to come up here and vent. I played on medium difficulty.

Having read the forums, and saw that the issues like camera angle, excessive AI grenade range, merc with no ammo on hire etc had already been mentioned, so I will skip those, but:

No difference in day/night. It seems to me no matter what time I enter the map, the lighting, LOS, detection range etc remain the same. I absolutely hated this since I am the night stealth melee kind in JA2. Do not like this at all.[:D];

Countless -2 torso hits regardless of ammo or gun combo tried, very very annoying;

Grenades, apart from been laser guided, that are thrown and then clips through the wall of a building, exploding inside[8|];

I don't mind the AI taking shots through a window or something, but when AI fires from two buildings away, the bullet travels through 2 windows and a wall then hit my merc in the head with no direct LOS.... come on;

AI rotating through kneel and standing stance when it can not get a clear shot on target also beginning to bugs me;

Also don't like the fact that there is no merchant in game to sell loot to.

Lack of the ability to command your merc to climb on to the roof of a building, resorting to mad clicking in real time mode hoping the selected building is climbable;

Lack of a difinite way to initiate turn based combat, I can set up the mercs into positon before a fight all I want, but when I ctrl-click on an NPC and half the time they run all the way up to my mercs in real time before turn based combat starts really means I have no control over when and where to start a battle.

And lastly, the lack of a mouse tip guide on aiming showing range/% chance of hit means I can not target NPCs with any confidence of a hit at all.

All these and the fact that I am forced to Save-Load countless times through an encounter, made a very fustrating two days for me so far. Did I also mention that I hated how long loading games took?

So I guess I am going back to JA2 for the time been, plenty of promise in the game, but at the moment terribly disappointing to me as a JA player.

I got to disagree here, I think the only thing that is the same is the lighting, it looks like Night is modeled, only the lighting is the same (you pick up on what are good ranges for the weapon type, and I notice in a night fight, I can't hit anything at the range I am used to firing at, and need to be much closer)

Countless -2 torso hits regardless of ammo or gun combo tried, very very annoying;

I think it is screwy, but I also see a number of high damage hits in the chest also, what I don't like is aim at the leg and get a chest hit, aim at the head and get a chest hit, why aim ?, but for your point, think it will depend on what they come up with, is it a bug or are these seen as glancing hits ?

Grenades, apart from been laser guided, that are thrown and then clips through the wall of a building, exploding inside[8|];

I don't mind the AI taking shots through a window or something, but when AI fires from two buildings away, the bullet travels through 2 windows and a wall then hit my merc in the head with no direct LOS.... come on;

maybe I am lucky, I have not seen any of these

I have been able to climb on any of the roofs that I thought I should be able to ? most of them do have boxes/crates or something next to them, so the Merk can get up (now the one on the first map with the 2 barrels was silly, climb up on one, drop down, and then climb up on the 2nd one, to be able to pull yourself up, was a little much

agree, maybe it needs a key stoke to start instead of the cntr click ? we can always ask and complain :)

we been asking, and so I agree

Okay, this one I agree and will push to get something added or fixed

I tried to start a fight on the first map, blew one Trooper away (chest shot with shotgun !) and the others just took off walking and trying to pin them down to fire is silly

so don't think this works as intended (think maybe you have to shot and wound someone to get it go into combat ?)

do you have the beta patch ?

I am getting 40 point chest hits now (last was with a 9mm Calco)

I think it is more in line of body ammo, and lack of, you don't have armor, it is blowing holes in the target

I don't seem to have had such a bad experience with the game... I actually like it. Sure there are a few flaws, but look at how many Patches JA2 has... I suggest you try the patche first. What version of the game do you have?

When i get a hit that only does 2 hp damage, I tend to imagine the bullet slightly skimmed the guy. But I really enjoy how the militia are weak soldiers, you can hit them once or twice and then they start to hurry away, but usually end up bleeding until they fall exhausted... then they still seem to try and crawl away... I usually end them with a knife or a shot to the head [:D] That is one of the BEST features in my opinion! I love how they know when to stop and run away... they don't want to die. [:'(]
