AAR-SP "Carribean Happy Hour"
Scenario by Freek Schepers

Game Engine: 3.6.2 (will switch to ANW when 3.9.4 is out; eliminating the launch missile bug)
Database: PDB
- AAR Part one -

When I read the release announcement of this scen I instantly got very curious. Interesting setup, fascinating mix of forces.

Here is what has happened so far:

November, 24th, 2008, 12:00 - start

A most unusual setup occurs on the display: I have a small carrier group and two other groups of ships, all widely dispersed over the map. This is a tactical unwelcome setup since I have to split my forces in order to guard the three groups.

Ok, on we go.

12:01 The US Drug Interdiction TF on Aruba is destroyed a minute after the scenario has started. Well, one thing less to take care of.

My strategy: bringing the three groups closely together and shielding them separately as long as necessary.

My tactics:

1. Shielding the carrier with Hawkeyes and Prowlers, the CAP is performed by Dutch Falcons.
2. Flying some Hornets over to the other two groups in order to defend them versus air threats

13:10 Dutch Falcons fight hostile fighters; could be Flankers

13:28 Bad surprise - Flankers (?) attacking the USS LHd Kearsarge ! 23% damage. My Hornets arrive just in time. Combined with two Durch Falcons they blow the attackers out of the sky. Flankers with ASuW loadouts? Most unpleasant. [:@]

All the time heavy air and ship to fight fighting between Dutch and Venezuelan units along the border.

13:44 First Hornet fell due to an Archer missile

14:00 End of Phase one: my surface groups are all shielded by aircraft and I now have to plan the attacks I have to conduct. Losses so far one F-18. I think at least a dozen Venezuelan or Russian aircraft have been shot down by Dutch Falcons or my Hornets.

...to be continued....

On we go, Phase 2 - finished a few seconds ago:

14:05 rethinking tactics: The task is to set up an moving ambush Southbound. Thus I come close to the shore. My risk: Maybe the carrier comes in trouble.

14:26 A Flanker approaching my Carrier Task Force is shot down with AMRAAMs

14:39 Another boogie trying to penetrate my screen. I switch one Hawkeye on active - it´s a Flanker. Downed with AMRAAMS

14:49 Helo shot down. It is far out thus ship based - is the Russian BCGN near?

14:54 A Dutch F-16 kills another helo. There must be a helo carrying ship somewhere around.

14:55 Another helo shot down

14:58 dito

Reflections on tactics: I´ll not move my carrier further South. Looks like the deadly Kirov-class BCGN is not far away. If its helos detect my carrier it´ll be time to say Goodbye

A strange surface contact Southeast: Skunk 299, making 10 knots, large strength - the BCGN? That would be very close indeed...

15:15 An aircraft coming in dumb at 540 knots is shot down. My wall of Hornets, Prowlers and Hawkeyes behind them, works as intended. It looks like a good game of chess - do I have the situation under control?

15:22 Dutch ships launch Harpoons at Venezuelan ships - good work, better than throwing wooden shoes at them [:)]

15:26 Another ac falls victim to my Hornet wall [>:]

15:50 what is this? A wall of high speed missiles apperas right out of nothing and is heading for my carrier! [X(]

Few seconds later they´re identified - Shipwrecks. Time for a last prayer....

My Hornets kill a few, but alas....

...in a ball of fire proud Teddy R says farewell...

Game Over !

Freek, what a brilliant scen!

I´ll play it again. I have to find out if this contact was the BCGN (but the misslies came from another direction) or an Oscar class SSGN [:@]

Great work ![&o]

Hi Freek,

Freek

My pleasure. I know what it means to work hard to create a good scen and then to wait for some guy playing it. Scen designing can be a rather lonely affair. [;)]

Well done!

Ralf
