Red number on dogtag?

Red number on dogtag?

During combat mode, on the mercs' dog tags there is a red number and a white number. The white number(s) represent the remaining AP's the merc has that turn.

What does the red number above it represent?

Red is how many hostiles are in that mercs line of sight.
