Best Sigint & Recce returns!!

Post by JeffroK »

Playing as the japanese, you get some really hopeless sigint.

On the same turn I got the following

Radio traffic intercepted from Alice Springs.....

Now that must mean there is a threat building up on the Finke River!

Plus a Recce flight from Johnston Is to Oahu found

300men, 2 guns, 3 vehicles.

!! Should I invade??

Or are these the japanese airmen pre-war intellegence warned us about with coke bottle glasses!!

I stopped reading the Japanese Sig Int reports. Every once in a blue moon, you get "Radio Transmissions detected at 42,55", and that means there are likely alot of ships in that hex. But 99% of the time, it's "Radio Transmissions detected at San Francisco", or something equally useless.

Has anyone ever gotten anything from Jap SigInt besides Radio reports? I haven't seen it.

I am suprised that I dont read in the AAR more japanese disinformation.

Getting some Divisions in Manchuria or Home Defense prepping for Oahu, Sydney or Karachi has a chance of showing on the Allied sigint and might see some frenzied reactions. At least they wont be sure of your targets (Yes, I'm a fan of Fortitude)

I had my first PBEM opponant conviced I was getting ready to invade Perth due to SigInt intercepts. He later told me that he was waiting for this to happen every turn until mid 44 and tied up lots of units preparing for it.

Screwing with your opponant's head is the best part of the game[8D]

Best way is to set the target of divisions in Manchuria and the home islands to targets like Hawaii, New Zealand, ect. Sooner or later the other guy will get an intercept saying such and such division is preparing to attack <whereever>. If he chooses to ignore these reports the Jap could drop the PPs to activate the units and lo and behold, the "false" reports the allies blew off werent false after all.

Too bad allied sigint isn't anywhere near as useful as it really was with regard to naval assets.

Take a unit that is refitting or just sitting around doing nothing and set it's objective to some far off place. Sooner or later SigInt will pick it up. To make it more convincing, set several units to the same objective. This would seem to "Confirm" the first intercept. [:D]

You sometimes get a 'radio transmission detected' in ops reports but I ignore the sigintel for the Japs.

I would go for resting and refitting units to get prepped for some objectives. It is not very hard to get accurate picture of enemy forces dispositions when keeping track of sigint+actual combat. And if the division is sitting somewehere in Japan as part of Home defence, you can easily reject the idea of their future actions unles you get one or two more hints for other units involved.
Example (here are only divisions listed as I keep track of them. The place they are reported is the LAST KNOWN POSITION due to update. Similary I keep track of all ground units including base forces and fortresses):
INFANTRY DIVISIONS

Good note taking is key. I built a wall map with a metal backing so I could put magnetized counters up. Every now and then I look my sigint and notes over to update the map. I've built quite a picture of the Japanese dispositions--but of course a lot of it is old info built up over time.
