Attacking Cities and Forts.

Commander – Napoleon at War is the second in a series of high level turn based strategy games. It spans the Napoleonic Wars from 1805 to 1815, allowing players to control France or the Coalitions against it through the entire period or in shorter scenarios. Easy to learn, with fun and addictive gameplay, this is a Napoleonic wargame in the style of the old "Panzer General".

Attacking Cities and Forts.

Post by michael1776 »

This is probably a really dumb question. Do you have to do anything special to attack troops garrisoning a city? I can't open the manual due to some issue with Acrobat. I had to uninstall it, now when I try to install it I get some kind of message stating that there is a previous version on my PC would I like to upgrade. Then it does nothing. Thanks Adobe! Anyway I cannot seem to get my troops to attack cities, and since I cannot go to the maual just yet I was hoping someone could help me out in the meantime. Thank you in advance.

I do not think I understand the question, you can attack enemy cities. However, it is easier to conquer them if using artillery support since defenders have a City Wall that can be reduced by both bombardment or defender casualties. Hope that helps [:)]

EDIT:
Bombard battle -> attacks and brings down the city walls

Normal battle -> atatcks defender strength, and also splashes some damage on the city walls if defender took any casualties.

Artillery and bombard sloop will choose bombard battle if both a unit and city is on same hex while all other units will choose normal battle.

City Walls give protection against normal battles, so using an artillery so soften up the walls first and then follow up with infantry is a good combination.

Make sure you are at war with the country you are trying to attack first :)

I think this may be a Tech Support issue at this point. I seem to be having video problems. I don't see the target cursors properly, they flicker when you mouse over them. Which is why I couldn't attack cities. I didn't see that they were able to be attacked because the cursor was not operating properly. Similarly, certain game windows don't open properly. For example, when I go to disband a unit, the pop-up which asks me if I am sure I want to do this, does not appear. When you mouse over the area where the pop-up is supposed to be, in the center of the screen, you can see a small portion of the window, but not the whole thing. So you have to hunt with the mouse to find the check to okay the disband operation. Also the tool tips pop-ups just pop-up with blank boxes. They are white boxes with no text in them. Not sure what would cause this. I am operating on a Windows XP, SP2 machine. An Nvidia gfx card with the last drivers made, and Directx 9.0c

Anyone else having similar problems? Oh BTW I have a similar issue with the last release of CEAW as well.
