Yes I was looking for the REAL NFL roster file for 2007 or 2008 with resonable overall ratings. the MAD_NFLv20 is really high rated abd totally not realistic. I though more people would have created historical updated rosters and graphics..

PLEASE EVERYONE let me know if there is any other 2007/2008 REAL NFL rosters out there

Thanks so much

I made a CFL roster, with everyting in it as correct as can be
DOB, Heights, weights, college......... etc, etc
the damned thing took well over 3 months to complete....... and thats just 8 teams with a few Free Agents

I actually have converted madden rosters over to Max FB - actually you'll see all of the available FAs for my leagues in one DB eventually and really this is part of taking care of that.  I'll try to put something up on fbmax tonight.

I think that the issue here is that even though most of us on this board are NFL fans, CFL fans, etc....we primarily play MaxFB using our own created leagues. That was the big draw to this game. For my NFL fix, I play Madden.
The huge amount of work involved in making a league file like that is a deterrent. But a couple guys have done it.
There just isnt a move to create, and keep updated, an NFL league file.
As for uniforms and stuff....there are tons at www.fbmax.com

Hats off to guys like mbsports....thats a big job.

You said it Gary, it is a royal PITA to mess with rosters in this game, even with JD's great work on the editor.  If the community was big enough and interest was strong enough, a roster project could be broken up among several people, but the interest was just not there even when there were a lot more people playing MaxFB regularly.

Anyhoo, this week I was toying with the idea of firing up FBPro98 again (and still may do that) and procured an updated VPNFL rated roster file for the start of the 08 season.  I'll dig out my notes and see if I can convert it to MaxFB format as the VPNFL rating system is probably the best I've ever seen.

first off ..MADDEN blows.. It is an arcade game with a coach mode after thought that has NEVER truely catered to the PC user! I only do NFL and the reason I got MaxFB was because I hate madden as do 25 of my buddies that will play in a league!

This game is open ended to cater to NFL CFL and all others... I am just amazed at the lack of NFL Rosters, Graphics, and Stadiums

That is it!

The stadiums issue I can't help ya' out with - the artwork is already there... the players... honestly I don't have a DB set for it but I do have all of the players converted over.

The question of course is "how does it play?"

I never use NFL rule sets in MaxFB so you'll have to let me know :-)

Yes, I pretty much agree, especially if you just like coach mode. It's a glitzy, pretty, easy to use game intended for the masses, and it does that job well.

Well, thats what I was trying to point out. The majority of people who have bought this game, are more interested in creating their own football universe, or recreating history. Thats why there is a WFL and USFL roster available at FBMAX.
OldCoach is still in the 1940s [:)] This game is a tinkerers dream.
Not that much interest in the NFL. Although, as I stated earlier, a league file is available. Download it, move some players around where they should be, and use the editor by JD to get the ratings the way you like them.

As for graphics and stadiums, well there are plenty of uniforms on FBMAX. Stadiums, thats another story. I make stadiums. But the huge amount of time required to make them has kept me from making NFL stadiums. I made a handful of generic stuff, that can be dressed up to look like an NFL stadium, but thats about as far as I am going with it.

One more thing to remember, probably the most important thing...this community isnt very large. It's a small community, most of which is fairly loyal to a game that is no longer in development. And of that small, loyal group, about a handful are willing to take time out of their day to make stuff for the game.

OK guys,

I uploaded a little file to fbmax called MBNFLFile.rar

This little puppy is a league db called lge_nfl that has 2,200 current NFL players included on their teams.  The only issue that I had was having to dump some players to Free Agency due to how IR works.  I've not messed with uniforms, playbooks, stadiums, etc. etc.

This is basically a player DB - I expect tuning to be required as well but worst case scenario I saved all my transfers so if something is 5-10% too high I can update it really easily.

Seconded, looks very solid - thanks MB! If the skin tones are accurate in the file, that'd be a big plus - I haven't loaded it in game to see if they are. The birthdays are generic in the file but that doesn't matter to me b/c it doesn't really affect gameplay, visually or otherwise.

I was able to put together a new VPNFL based roster file today but there are tons of holes in the data available (player numbers, skin tones, Colleges, height, weight, etc are off). The right players are on the right teams and the stats are VPNFL based, but there's just too much missing for me to mess with further, IMO. Maybe I'll see if I can find a conversion chart for Madden ratings vs VPNFL ratings and see if I can tweak MB's file for my NFL simming use. Thanks again for posting your file, MB.

Quixian,
I have been playing around with Fb Pro 98 again  but run into the same old problem  SACKS!!!
I am using the VPNFL and everything that comes with it and still sacks...  I have tred to change the OL SP and STG to 95 each and still Sacks UGH!!!!!!!!!   So I am back to Max Fb  tho alot of work changing teams but I guess worth it.   Its funny  all I have ever wanted is a game where I can make a league of Great teams such as the 75 Steelers and 07 Pats and 00 Ravins and 85 Bears and so on.  But I run into problems every time....
Ok Let me download the new league and give it a try...

Well if you use Madden and want to convert you can pull all of the needed info - and the skin tone should be alright... I can't remember what the Madden progression is but I think it is the same as Dave uses. Facemasks will be jerkified though.

I agree, FBPro certainly has its share of warts also [;)]

The best "replay" game for classic teams has been (strictly IMO) Second and Ten. Great UI, AI, and very believable results. A bit pricey for a text sim, but has a free demo and is a great game to replay classic team matchups in the NFL and college. You can do classic matchups in MaxFB and make them work, of course, but it takes a lot of work to do it. Not complaining, just stating a fact, while acknowledging that MaxFB is my FB sim of choice for fictional leagues and overall tinkering [:)]

I've made a few global edits to MB's latest upload to put the player attributes a bit more in line with the VPNFL parameters. I tested one game already using a game from tomorrow's schedule. I was the Jets at home against the Dolphins, and lost 35-33. I need to test more, obviously, but the first results were promising. It looks like the pass rush may need a slight boost, but the DBs actually played pretty well in the game, despite the yards allowed. Most of the yards came on big plays when the QBs checked down to the secondary and tertiary receivers and found guys open downfield, so increasing the pass rush should help. Pennington threw an INT in the red zone on the first drive and Favre had passes broken up all day long.

Game log is as follows:

Dolphins 00 07 00 28 00 35
Jets 07 10 06 10 00 33
