Wir 3.3?

Post by Rowdy »

Is there going to be an updated version of 3.2 released sometime soon incorporating Possums v5 costs for tanks and planes that go over the value of 9? Is Arnaud going to implement a new cost system that goes past the value of 9? Sorry for all the questions but the game has me in its grip and won't let go. Its too bad we can't encompass all of europe and africa into one theatre of war using WIR's engine.

I wonder too about an update. It will be a few years before we see Grigsby & Co. develop a new WIR what with War in the Pacific in the works and the patches needed for UV.

Probably not soon, we're in a slow period right now.

Yes.

Not that I'm aware. Possum's work is a seperate development, not part of the "official" WIR updates. I'm pretty sure Rick and Arnaud have worked on equipment adjustments to have items with values over 9.

Everybody wants this, but we aren't going to get it any time soon. :(

New feature idea

Post by OlliH »

This idea has probably been proposed already, but how about expanding equipment pools with captured enemy equipment.

For example 10% of retreating(25% of shattering and 80% of surrendering) opponent's tanks and guns could be added to the opposing side's pool.

Airplane capturing might only be possible by overruning the airfield.

Maybe captured factories could continue producing at reduced rate after several weeks.

Switching your unit into using captured enemy equipment could cause extra experience loss.

Readiness losses might also be slightly higher for units using captured enemy equipment.

I would also like to see the pools upgraded so that they could hold obsolete equipment that you can no longer produce(BT-5 tanks for example).

Nice Ideas OlliH, but unfortunately way beyond the ability of the WIR game engine, drop into Dave's site and add these suggestions to the Wargame project hosted there.
There is unfortunatly no room to add new features to the WIR executable (Remember that WIR ONLY runs in LOW memory)
In my custom campaign, I have the Finns driving T-26 M39E's, which they will happily replenish from the Soviet T-26 M39E pool, as the Axis cannot build this particular AFV. (They are assumed to be war booty from the Winter War, plus freshly captured replacements.)
Also I did some research into captured AFV usage, and came to the conclusion that no unit, (Apart from the Finns and the Australian 6th Div in Egypt ), relied apon captured AFV's for the bulk of it's combat strength. And so in a game the scale of WIR, there was no room for the complications of having captured AFV's (If a Batallion was able to have 4 or 5 different types of AFV's in use at the same time, then including captured AFV's would be possible, and desirable.)
"We're having a war, and we want you to come!"
So the pig began to whistle and to pound on a drum.
"We'll give you a gun, and we'll give you a hat!"
And the pig began to whistle when they told the piggies that.
