How complicated

Post by rgw »

Reading up on this civil war game it seems quite complicaated what with the manual being 300 hundred pages long. Is this game worth the investment of time learning to play it. I do like complex games but theres a limit to when things just get a little to boring. So i leave it to the humble gamers do you think its worth the investment.

It really is not that complicated at all.  The size of rules book is not equated to the complexity of the game.   You will have a great time with this one.

it is worth it... i glanced at the manual...thought oh crap...but i took a look at it like this...how do i move...how do i fight ...how do i capture stuff...i learned that then moved it up a notch...i am not into the +1 modifiers or -2 this...all i know is my cavalry is fearsome when mounted on a charge with multiple fires with a sharps...I am the CSA but I like being the underdog....once you get the move thing down and how to fight the rest takes care of itself....I love this game has the strategic as well as tactical....YEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-------HHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Highly recommend you buy it.  It's worth the time and investment.  It looks harder than it is.  Also welcome aboard![:)]

The manual is 200 pages, not 300. And about 50 pages of that is appendices. And the manual is divided into sections on the Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Game, so that someone who wants to play FOF a simpler game with most of the options turned off only needs to care about a fraction of the manual. So, don't let the size of the manual be a deterrent!

I believe the physical manual is 200 pages and there is an electronic-only appendix that is an additional 50 pages... so 250 pages total.

Okay, rounding up that would be 300, I guess. But I stand by my statement that one doesn't have to read the whole manual to enjoy FOF!

I agree with Gil.

You don't have to read the whole manual to enjoy FOF. I started playing it right away and spend basically an hour or so before bedtime reading the manual at leisure.
