Will we have an editor in WiTP? I think may "what-ifs"
wishes list posted here would be better fulfilled if we
had a powerful editor, able to change ships production,
A/F production and even creating new planes and
ships. The software should provide also graphics for planes
that didn´t fight the war but were designed or even
had ptototypes built, like the A7M, Shinden and Kikka
(and for the US, post 1945 planes like the B-36).
Pre 1941 planes would be wonderful too (D2A1´s,
F3F´s, B-10´s) and it could be possible to have
scenarios covering from 1936 to 1948.
I think it would be desirable to have other variables
customizable, like:
1-No atomic bombs
2-Possible earlier involvement of USSR

I've been saying this all along. I agree completely. This would be a big boost to interest and playability. We could allow obscure planes and ships into the game this way, like the F4F-3S Catfish, the seaplane version of the Wildcat. Only a few were built because the sudden turn around and build up of airfields in the Pacific made them unnecessary.

Another use of the Editor.

In the Pacific War game - I would use the editor in a very ahistorical fashion. At the beginning of the scenario I would reduce every IJN flight group, notably on the CV's by 20% - and then go back and increase all of the skill ratings of those 3 pilot cadres by about 50%. This was a short cut to instituting an Imperial Air Training Program, which had a dramatic effect on the quality of the air opposition one faced later in the war when we reached the Mariannas and following. Editors can be used in interesting ways, and we need one. And it's been going on for a long time - has anyone every played the old board game Wooden Ships, Iron Men - and created the USN 74's or the Pennsylvania, the only USN 120 SOL just for the fun of it - creative editing. Even PBEM games are fun as long as the editing is balanced.

I agree. AS Japanese player I would like to have these planes available in a 1941 scenario:
A7M (REISEN)
N1K Shiden (violet lightening)
kI-84 Hayate (Gale)
ki-44 (shoki) demon killer
J2M1 (raiden) thunderbolt
virtute omne regatur

Better than UV's editor?

Post by tanjman »

:( I just hope its more like the Rich Dionne's PacWar editor (Mika's is great for hacking the exe) and less like the UV editor. Trying to sort (pilots have 19999 slots!) out what is what takes forever with the UV editor. Being able to sort the data and cut and paste whole blocks of data with Rich's PacWar editor is great!

:D Heck with the right editor we can fix (most of) what we don't like and do all of those neat what if scenarios.
