New start not too bad

Thanks to all for all the help in the last few days. Giving it another go as the Union. Am in September 1861 already. Halleck my TC in St Louis. Lyon AC of the army of Missouri in Springfield MO. Grant sitting in Cairo ILL soon to be my army of Tennesee. As soon as Scott in Washington dies are i kick him out McClellen will be my TC in the East. McDowell will be the AC of the army of the Potomac. Once this happens then Buel will be head of the Army of Ohio in Cincinnati. Have already started setting up the best leaders I can get for Corp leaders in Wash, Cin,Cairo and St Louis. Will try to have at least 4 or maybe even 5 good corp leaders in each of those cities.

Have been converting each and every turn so as to have a strong horse corp as well. Have got production started on 6 Ironsides already in the first turn. Have finally got some what of a hold on production at least in the early part of the war. Not really worrying too much about factories right now because even if you have a lot of factories they do you no good with out the population.


Tried to take the island up by NC second turn. But for some reason commander stone will not do a amphib for some reason. So took another commander and took the island easy. Now have a heavy gun sitting there guarding any thing in or out of that harbor. I firmly believe all my trouble with amphib was due to this stone guy. Which means there is surely something wrong with my game.

Once again thanks to all of those who tried so hard to help me these last few days. I like the game just got so dam frustrated trying to make something happen when I really thought I was doing things right. Someone playing the game ought to try this stone guy to do an amphib. He starts the game in Washington A lvl 3 commander. I personally no matter what I do cant get him to work right. Will keep working with him to see if I ever get him to work if not guess just kill him off and replace with someone who will take my orders.[:D]

Took Paducah in september did not want to wait for the rebs to invade then have such a hard time kicking them out of Paducah. Have several divisions sitting on the borders of Kentucky Waiting for the rebs to invade. Then I will swoop down on Louisville,Lexington and other counties of KY. This way I hope I stop KY from going rebel. Right now I hold Paducah with at least 3 corp leaders and grant. He has not made his promotion as yet so cant make him my AC as yet. I believe he will make his star in 2 more turns or 3 not sure right now. In the mean time hope Scott passes on so I can take McClellen out of AC. Then I can make Buell in Ohio my 4th AC. Wish we were able to make at least six ACs. I would make Pope army of Mississippi and Sheridan army of the Shanadoah. I also believe Butler had an army in New Orleans dont remember the name tho right now.

Sorry to ramble but this is what im trying to do and just wanted to share my views a little without bitching about things not working. Thank you once again for all the valuable info you have shared with me.

Glad to hear you have a better game going this time around robot. [8D]

If I recall correctly, Union General Charles P. Stone was the fellow who got dragged before a Congressional Joint Committee and was thrown in prison at Fort Lafayette, New York for the fiasco at Balls Bluff. Maybe at the start of every game you should remove him to New York and just forget about him. [:D]

Robot,

I don't think heavy artillery on an island off the coast does anything except defend the island; it is not even sufficient for a garrison against guerillas I recall.

To block trade entrance to a river system the heavy artillery must be in a land region adjacent to the river region you want to block. For example, you block trade to Mobile from the land region across the road bridge to the immediate east; you block Mississippi River trade by putting a heavy artillery in a land region adjacent to the river and between the port and the Gulf.

To amphib a unit commander must not only be adjacent to the body of water but he must have amphib initiative. Amphib initiative is denoted by both a red arrow and three (?) wavy lines. He must have both. Did Stone have both? It is not uncommon for commanders in Baltimore and/or DC to have initiative but not amphib initiative.

You might consider having Grant successfully attacking anything while he waits for promotion; this could result in his CR increasing (he'll get another CR increase with promotion as I recall and will certainly get a bump when you make him an AC).

The maximum trade blockage from one of the Islands is obtained if you put one infantry, one heavy artillery and one depoy on the Island.  This has been posted a number of times but I have not personally verified it but have seen enough evidence to suspect its true.
