LCU's to Karachi

Post by wwengr »

I have never done this before, so I am curious. I understand from reading the Must Read Threads, that the Allied Player can transfer LCU's from the West Coast to Karachi or China, by changing the Command HQ of the unit to Southeat Asia or China Command.

How long does it take for that LCU to transfer?
I have been inputting my orders for the campaign game first turn since July 4, 2009. I'm getting close. In another month or two, I might be able to run the turn!

I have not moved any forces to Karachi, but it takes 60 days to move LCU to China (Chungking). You are limited to 8 LCU's to China. I read somewhere that you can send unlimited to Karachi. I tend to send AA to Chungking because 1) cheap in PP, 2) it makes the Japanese pilot training program in China more interesting. I have also sent armor to Chungking. Again, more for the WTF factor than anything else.

Does the unit need to be disbanded once the hq has been changed?

IIRC after changing the command , the next turn the LCU moves into the reinforcement queue at 60 days delay for Karachi/Aden or Chungking

Quoting Halsey -
For Canadian airgroups to transfer, you have to redesignate the units HQ. Then you have to withdraw the unit. So you must have two air units of the same AC to do this. The airgroup will then show on the reinforcement track.

From -

My understanding is that:
  • Canadian airgroups will transfer using above procedure.
  • LCU's will transfer from any West Coast base by changing assigned HQ to SEAC or China
  • Only 8 LCU's can transfer to China
  • (Gamey?) You can change NOPAC, CENPAC, SOPAC, or SWPAC Command Headquarters to SEAC Command and all of their reinforcements will then show up in Karachi until you change the HQ back. If the HQ is in a West Coast base, it will transfer too.
  • (Based on above response) LCU's show up 60 days later in Karachi.

Thanks guys!

The bit about Canadian airgroups doesn't seem to work. I'm playing stock, patch 1.8.06 and have tried switching the HQ of both Stranraer and Blemheim sqadrons to SEAC then withdrawing the unit with the switched HQ. It comes back with HQ as SEAC, but it arrives in Vancouver according to the aircraft reinforcement schedule. Has anyone else found this?

Have the same with starting B-17E bombardment squadrons in CHS - they're attached to SEA at start, I withdraw them but their arrival base is shown to be San Francisco.[&:]

I have never done it myself. I quoted Halsey. This may have been changed in a patch. Halsey's post was dated 3/16/2007.

Turkey, I've tried that also with the Canadians and it didn't work for me either. I've sent a few LCUs to Karachi before in the latest version and that still works fine, but all of the air units are stuck flying themselves it seems.

In my experience only LCUs will arrive at the new theatre HQ location (i.e. Karachi / Chungking).
Air units HAVE TO BE FLOWN (or transported by ship) to the destination from West Coast. Withdrawing does NOT work.
