Comments on the 2009 ENH OOBs

I have no complaints with the updated data files, but the pics could be improved. Granted, I didn't volunteer to assist Alby's crew (and yes, DROregon DID contact me), so it's my own fault. The new Japanese unit pics are excellent. I have a small gripe with the USMC pics, but I made some adjustments in my own personalized version. The series D, E and F rifle squads all look alike, which kinda bugs me. I used a few of the H2H pics to differentiate between them, and changed around a couple of other pics. No big deal, though.

As for the color armor/artillery drawings, I never liked those from the old days. I much prefer the available B&W photos, again lifted from H2H. So, I'll just do some switching to suit my personal preferences.

This is NOT meant as criticism, OK? For those of us who are comfortable with the OOB editor, we can change them as we see fit.

Overall, I am very happy with how the team has audited/upgraded the database and corrected long-standing errors. [;)]

One more thing: in our e-mails with programmer Mike Wood a few years ago, he made it clear that SPWaW is meant to portray combined arms warfare. With his invaluable assistance, we began to reverse-engineer the game to what he intended it to be. Now, in 2009, SPWaW is still the single-best game to represent WWII-era ground combat in all its facets, thanks to the efforts of its dedicated fanbase.

KG, I dont think any of the USMC pictures have been changed since way back when.

most new pics this time around were for Japanese, and some early UK desert units, plus some Polish ones IIRC

theres still time to help DR Oregon, as his team is still working on the translated set of oobs!

Krec, what you should do is download the complete H2H mod into a separate folder. This allows you to look over his PIC folder and choose which ones you want to use.

Be careful with this, as you DON'T want to use the H2H.exe. It will overwrite existing SPWaW files. Unzip the mod into a separate folder from SPWaW, OK?

Disclaimer: Let me clarify this for other players -- I don't do PBEM, so OOB customization is harmless. For PBEMers, you're better off sticking with a common format. Otherwise, you're gonna get into trouble. Please keep this in mind.
