Yes. I forget the name of the son that died but I took a picture of the memorial plaque for the Wasp for my neighbor that aboard the USS Yorktown at Patriots point. He worked in the engine gang I think as a boiler man.
After careful consideration of all of the @$#%$%^ frustrations I have had with this game...THIS TAKES THE CAKE...NOT JUST THE CAKE...THE PIE, THE COOKIES, THE ICE CREAM SUNDAY, AND EVERY OTHER DESSERT UNDER THE SUN!
Wasp sunk, NC damaged, and the OB sunk also! ONE torpedo salvo...ONE! I can't get my subs to hit 1 ship 1 times, but this IJN crack shot gets 5 hits in one salvo!
I QUIT....MATRIX...FIX YOUR GAME! NO WAY THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED IN REAL LIFE!!!!!! [:@][:@][:@]

Next, Knavey will say he sunk 4 Jap flat-tops early in the war using only 3 American flat-tops and only lost one of his own...Must be broken!...........(Always nice to see our friend Knavey drop in..)
The difference between playing the land oriented games and this one is proving very interesting for me. Here the loss of certain, specific , assets can have game changing effects. That is not often the case on the Eastern Front .

a) A joke by the original poster?
b) The game intentionally recreating an historic event?
c) An incredibly unlikely coincidence?
Also, what was the Japanese submarine naming convention? Was it really just numerical ("I-19") or was that just the American designation for enemy subs?
EDIT: OK, appears to be a joke, given that it was also the same date (just noticed that).
it is a joke by Knavey! [:D]
Long time forum members know Knavey posting such results, saying how unbelievable strange this or that result is and IIRC it is everytime a result out of the real war just typed in in the combat report.
Those posts have long been known as "Knavey´s"! [;)]
I say the most likely Knavey rant is the one about lunatic Americans who suddenly think they can load B-25 bombers on a flattop, actually bomb Japan less than six months after Pearl Harbor, and then land those bombers in China and Russia. What a hoot! No way THAT could happen IRL.

But, on the other hand, it isn't very likely it will happen in WitP either...
RATS!!!! Bring on Habakkuk...

Once in a while Knavey posts a thread containing a "modified" combat report that actually reflects something which happend during WWII (usually some extreme result). He always names his posts something like: The game is BROKEN!!, or In REAL live this could NEVER happen!.
I personally think he does this to reflect on the unpredictability of war and to take the mikey out of people that are complaining about the "extreme" results that can somethimes happen during gameplay using the argument that this result could never have happened during the REAL war in the pacific...
And yes, the Japanese used numbers to designate subs, as did the Germans...
Thanks for explaining this to new guys William... this would surely help them not to be afraid of us old hands and our "perculiar" ways... [:D][8D]

Peculiar??? Peculiar???? What you mean, peculiar, Kemo Sabe??? I'll have you know I resemble that statement and your disparaging remark.. Just because I've been hanging around here with you guys for 8 years and playing this game for four years doesn't make me peculiar...We are absolutely normal, I'll have you know!!! Excuse me for a second. Yes, dear, what did you say. It's time to shower and shave. I did that last Saturday...... yes., dear...

Thanks, that makes more sense. Clever! However, as someone who is (still) looking into this game, I thought it was a legitimate complaint about the game that wasn't yet resolved by the publisher. Perhaps some kind of "PS: Just kidding." at the end would be appropriate. Then again, I am in the minority here.
On a related note, I visited the BB NC in Wilmington NC last September, highly recommended. I remember distinctly that it got one torpedo in the war... and now I understand the full context. Remarkable. It seems that every day I learn something strange and interesting about WW2, and Pacific in particular. (Part of the reason I hang out here without actually playing the game yet.)
Ok...I am not quitting, and as many have pointed out in this thread (and the others), this really did happen and just goes to show that sometimes, FACT is stranger than the coding that we have in our favorite game.
Consider all yourselves Knaveybacks for the next time...when we cross the line! No more Knaveywogs in this thread.
And for the record, I never did (cross the line)...the Med just doesn't go that far south.

I have been inputting my orders for the campaign game first turn since July 4, 2009. I'm getting close. In another month or two, I might be able to run the turn!
