Problem with Arty screen

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Problem with Arty screen

Post by RUPD3658 »

I just re-installed SPWAW and patched up to 8.4.

The problem I am having is that the arty orders screen is freezing. It comes up but does not respond. Only the ESC key seems to work.

Command and control is off and fast arty is on. All setting are the same as before when it worked. Still using XP.

Any ideas?

Ouch!

I seem to recall reading a similar problem years ago, but I do not remember anything about the solution.  Your game is patched, so that is not the issue.

I have only two trivial suggestions.  First, try running SPWAW with nothing else active on the computer.  (Oviously, no WITP!)  Second, delete, reload and repatch.   (I know the second path is a bother, but I have nothing better to offer.)

If you are not at 8.403, try that. It fixed the fast scroll on the arty screen, and may clear this up, but I dunno for sure.

In the "old days", turning off pop up blockers helped some, IIRC.

Thanks. I'll give them all a try.

Nothing worked.

I tried a fresh install of just 8.2 and had the same problem so it is not a patch issue.

I turned off the pop up blocker and had the same problem.

Any other known conflicts with programs? I am running pretty much the same as my old system.

run your game from a shortcut to the Mech.exe, do not use that other method that opens some other window

Just tried and had the same result. The only difference was that the ecape button worked 1 time using the mouse

I have this problem as well. I am running Vista, with version 8.2 of SP.

I hope Vista isn't the problem... :(

S0ome people have had success with the Y key problem by using an older video card driver.

Try running mech.exe in administrator mode. I haven't been through a battle with it yet, but quickly checking the arty screen worked fine.
