Multiple Four Engine squadrons @ a base

Post by ool »

Playing stock WITP with all applicable patches.

Calcutta has a size 5 airfield. Have three four engine bomber squadrons. Two B17E and one B24D. Assign them to attack rangoon airfield. Only the two B17E squadrons launch. B24 doesn't go. Admin is good. Morale 99. Is there a size a airfield must be to allow three of these to launch at once?

No - but there are a host of factors that decide whether bombers will attack or not, including (but not limited to) weather, leadership, Air HQ in hex (and what it is prepped for), supply, recon, air support, etc., etc.

Lots of random die rolls involved.

EDIT: i should note that if you OVERSTACK the airbase, the less likely the planes are to fly, but i am assuming you have 250 planes or less at the size 5 airfield.

Well under 250planes, 88 to be exact. RAF support well over the requirements to fly them. If I move one to Dacca they will attack as separate groups. One from Dacca and the two left at Calcutta will attack as one raid. Seems strange with all the support in the world, good leaders and lots of supplies they can't manage to fly as one large raid. Oh well life goes on.

Thanks

It would be nice for the game to report why a certain squadron didnt fly.

Totally agree on that one Khyberbill, even though you'd probably have the occasional turn or two where that breakdown would end up being longer than the turn's combat report.

In many cases, a lot of frustration for the game would at least be channeled in a certain direction. And, if there were problems with the game engine, then it could be addressed. I assume if the planes dont fly, I havent sent enough beer to the base and I put in a call to Schlitz.

If you move an air HQ (with a good enough ldr) that has the effective range to cover both bases & if you have the bombers split between 2 bases they will sometimes attack in the same raid but still there are many variables involved. They still should be able to work from the one base as one raid but again many variables/die rolls to happen. First I'd try to get an air HQ at the base w/ a good/high stat ldr in command to see if that works out.

More likely the opposite - too much beer, the aircrew can't find their aircraft. [:D]
