Can't start on my Dell D420 w/ Intel 945GM

Post by fkne »

I just bought TOAW III and can't get it to run on my Dell D420 with a Intel 945GM graphic chip. I found someone who got it to run:

I just installed on my my Dell Inspiron 6400, 945gm chipset for graphics at 1280 x 768 resolution. A problem is that there is an area of the right side of the screen a couple of inches wide is blank when the game runs. Is there something I need to do?

This gives me some hope. The program hangs/does not display anything after the Talonsoft intro video. It's running I am just not seeing anything, the TOAW III window is black.

I wonder if there is a command line option to skip the intros or some setting I have not tried. I have included my dxdiag.txt file. The problem is I am off to India for 6 months and have to take the D420 with me ...

I hope someone can help...

Thank you and wintery greeting from Berlin,

Ferdinand

You're on Vista, correct ? It's not TOAW crashing, but the intro movie. Disable it in the preferences, and TOAW will start.
Set it to run in XP compatibility mode also, especially if you have sound problems.
The problem is linked to vista NOT your hw :)
Hope that helps,
Cheers !!!

Hey noxious,

thanks so much for the idea! For others who might run into the problem:

I am running XP Service Pack 2.

In Opart 3.ini I set:

nointro=Y
toawlog=Y
oldsound=Y

and presto it worked, what a relief ...

Thanks again, and off to learn some strategy and tactics ;-)
