Don't know what happened at Kwaj but my bombardment fleet was hit by CD guns when it discovered the mine field then again when it bombarded. Cost me 2 DMS in the process.

I pulled off another surface raid on Lunga which was the highpoint of the day.

Thanks for the stats.

It looks like you have the RN in the central Pacific.  What do you have available guarding India?

The RNB was withdrawn when India was under threat of invasion. I figured that in a hostile air enviornment they would be little more than targets for the KB.

Currently I have about 140 B-17/LB-30s along with a ton of Wellingtons to hold off an invasion. Gordon invaded about 3 months ago and made the mistake of letting the KB get within Hurricane range of Madras. This cost him 1 CV sunk, 3 damaged and a ton of transports sent to the bottom.. By mutual truce he is withdrawing his troops from the mainland but Sri Lanka may be a fight.

If there is another invaion of India it will most likely be overland through the jungle. To oppose this I have the Burma troops which withdrew from Mandalay and about 3K worth of SEAC Chinese troops which either marched through the jungle or were air lifted out of Yenen after being mauled.

A SigInt sucess

Post by RUPD3658 »

3 turns ago SigInt warned that a Jap Div and Eng unit were on the way to Marcus Island. I moved a surface force to Wake and it promtly got sunk. Today the CV portion arrived at Marcus and caught not only the transports as they unloaded but also sank 2 CVEs (Taiyo and Hosho). The carnage should continue next turn. The cover story will be that they were pursuing the surface force that had raided Wake. The Intel guys will get their medals after the war so that secrecy can be preserved.

RE: A SigInt sucess

Post by RUPD3658 »

The slaughter continued at Marcus. Final confirmed kills were 2 CVE, 4 DDs and 15 transports with more expected to sink. I may lose a CA. While I would love to stick arond another turn to finish off the stragglers, I have a bad fealing that the KB may be lurking near by. With 1/2 my missions expended and having suffred AC losses, I think the best thing to do is quit while I am ahead and head for home.

KB spotted! CV battle expected next turn!

Post by RUPD3658 »

KB was spotted 7 hexes SW of Wake and my CVs. My first instict was to retire but then I realized that if the KB made a move for the Marshalls I might lose the Brit CVs covering the Jaluit invasion force that just departed. I don't have enough LBA in the area to stop the KB so it looks like I have no choice but a mid ocean show down. The weather is thunderstorms so it might not happen anyway. I have only 48% of my missions left so if it is not a quick and bloody battle things will go bad for me fast.

Why I will win: We are evenly matched 6 to 6 with CVs but I have extra fighters on my CVs and since lots of Zero pilots were lost off of Madras my pilots should be even or better. I also have a flak rating of 9700 for the bombers that get through.

Why I will lose: The Zero is still better than the Wildcat and I am low on missions. Fighters and bombers from Marcus Island may be able to join in the fight.

The final factor in my decision was that I may not get another chance to face the KB on even odds. If we trade even losses I come out on top since my CVs will be replaced and his won't. Worst case is that I lose all 6 and I am on the defensive for a year until I have enough Essexes (Essexi?) to advance again. Even a full KB can't risk assulting a base covered by powerfull LBA so my lack of carriers will really not allow him to do much with his.

Just in case, all ships in the Marshalls have been given orders to flee for safer ports. The invasion of Jaluit is still on though

Should make for a fun turn.

The carrier battle that never was

Post by RUPD3658 »

I went south and the KB went west of Wake so execpt for a well escorted Alf strike they never met. I am glad I didn't go to Wake to refuel since fighter sweeps from Marcus would have wiped out my fighters and the KB would have then slaughtered my CVs. In the end I will call this a marginal victory since we lost almost the same number of planes but Japan lost irreplaceable pilots.

RE: The carrier battle that never was

Post by RUPD3658 »

So much for PT boats ruling the seas. Mine got slaughtered at Wake and at best took out a Jap DD in return. Most of the units have bugged out.

My CVs are back in the Marshalls and have refuled and rearmed. Of course, now the KB has disappeared.
