AAR-SP "Operation Door Kicker"

Post by Anonymous »

Hello,

inspired by our fellow pooner who described his first experiences with "The New Shore of Tripoli" I decided to start playing through the Gouge Battleset. So I have just started with #1 "Operation Door Kicker".

It´s an "Iran scen", dealing with the classical US-Iran conflict. There exist several scens focusing on this subject, the most impressing one IMO is Flanker´s "Iranian Weapons of Mass Destruction" scen, AAR here on this site.

The Gouge Battleset interpretation takes place in 2010 and thus is up-to-date.

Ok, here are my first experiences:

1. Start is April, 1st, 2010, midnight. Nice time to start attacks.

2. I instantly launch two Hawkeyes, two Hornets with ATA loadouts for each of them, one Prowler (ECM active) and two Hornets with recon loadouts.

3. At 00:20 the first hostile aircraft are already downed with AMRAAMs.

4. About 00:25 one of the recce birds detects a large SSM site east of Chah Bahar. A primary target!

5. While some additional ATA configured Hornets sanitize the sky around the SSM site and Chah Bahar, four Hornets with ASuW loadouts start pounding the SSM site.

6. At 01:09 the first HY-4 launcher is destroyed, at 01:45 the whole site is a burning wreckage.

More to follow!

Proceeding with the scen I met two problems:

1. this Game Engine is awfully slow. I think 3.9.3 is several times faster. That makes no fun.

2. The AI handles air intercepts badly. The hostile F-4´s didn´t attack my aircraft. I was able to fly my recce Hornets very close to Phantoms and they didn´t fire at all.

Don´t know why and what for but this is plainly dumb AI behaviour.

Thus I´ve decided to stop. Waste of time. [:@]

I hope 3.9.4 will be at least as fast as 3.9.3 and without such weird behaviours.

Yes, I noticed the slowness, too. It runs like molasses for me. The fastest I could get it to run was 1:3sec on one computer and 1:15 sec compression on another (2.6gHZ dual core with 2gB RAM). What a total PiTA.

If this is the case, you must return your Mr. Beta-Tester crown to the appropriate authorities. [;)]

I noticed intercepts with 394 are very poor and in my testing that was related to enormous uncertainty zones that can occur around enemy planes. The AI tried to intercept these and frequently replots courses in all directions it thinks the contact is. I've seen this happen with both ships and planes; somehow ANW generates much bigger uncertainty zones (probably eating up processing power too).

Can't say if this explains Ralfs observations but I've observed it in multiple scens.
