Air Group Replasement / Reserve Aircraft

Post by Japan »

Is it possible in AE to program something, or to do something to allow the player to decide that
Airgroup xx should have 10 planes in reserve or something like that.

Ie. A Group has 36 planes, and I intend to send it to a small airfield far away from support elements, I expect they will have some losses.. Can I then order the group to go up there with 36 planes and 10 extra planes for replasements.

So that they actualy go up there with 46 planes, and 36 will be in "ready" and 10 in "reserve".. so when they loose a few planes they can get them replased from the squadrons own little reserve pool ... ?

This is a feture im missing.. is it in any way possible to do ?
So far I have dealt with this by merging 1/3 of another squadron into this squadron before sending them to locations like that, but feel it should be possible in a easyer way.

There is a way of achieving this.  Not an intended feature but never-the-less doable with a bit of monkeying bout.

1. take squadron A with a plane (and pilot) compliment 10 lower than required and a full-strength squadron B (which you would like to give the reserve pool to) in the same hex.

2.  Draw 10 planes into A.
3. Fly out the 16 planes of A
4. Disband the remnant 10 planes into B.
5. fly B to target.  The other 10 planes will follow over the next few days as they are reqpired.

Edit - rereading your email it's appears it is basically what you are already doing

Ye I agee,  but maby it would been easyer if it was possible to set the squadron to recive 10 or so more planes then thay should (not more pilots, only a few more reserve aircrafts) so they dont need to fly back to a big base to be reinforced.   Im sure IRL they could fly planes out to frontline bases...

Yes, AE does have the concept of reserve a/c and it works much as you describe.
Where's the Any key?

Thanks for the info, timtom.  As we find out more about AE, I'm discovering that it's going to be a very different game than WitP. [:D]
