I am wondering if any of you use wheather forecast to plan rest for air-units. Does it makes any sense to set "rest" for the squadron if a thunderstorm is on its way? Will there be any difference between no-action because of wheather with normal action set and no-action in "rest" regime?

Yes, it does help to rest your pilots in bad weather. It seems to be pretty bad to perform long missions (other than naval search) in bad weather, and especially bad to make long transfers in bad weather.

Of course, if you always ground your aircraft in bad weather, your opponent gets an easy opening to attack!

In bad wather, you will have more op losses. I did not notice any effect on fatique, but the op losses may affect the morale.

But often the most serious issue is the unreliability in bad weather - strikes often don't fly at all, or they have only low effect. It's often costly to order a shock attack for your LCUs if you can't rely on that heavy air strike to disrupt the enemy... On the other hand, airfield attacks can be very successful if the enemy planes are sitting on the ground because of the bad weather.

Thus I don't use the weather forecast much to decide when my planes take a rest, but to decide which missions they should fly tomorrow.

Well since most missions wont fly in bad weather, there is really no need to rest your pilots. If they dont fly, they are resting. If the weather happens to be clear over your base and you are "resting your pilots" then that enemy air raid shows up . . .

Bearing that in mind ....Bad weather is also the perfect time for you're SCTF Bombardment runs ..... After the fall of Sing on one AI game I was able to hit Singapore 3 times with Force "Z" ....catching alot of grounded planes each time ...... Cuts both ways though .... if the bad weather clears up fast it can bite you ...... I tried hitting Balkipapan once and the weather cleared the next day, only to find I was 4 hexes away from a previously undetected KB .....losing a BB and 2 CL for my effort.
........and I've noticed bad weather does not seem to bother you're Ampib invasions much....you would think it would have a lagre detrimental affect on you're men but I haven't noticed much of a change in bad weather.
