New Bombur scenario.

Post by Bombur »

My next project is a global domination scenario based on Bombur mod. The game will start in 1900. It will use Grymme´s excellent world map. Features
1.Nine regimes: USA, Russia, China, Japan, British Empire, France, Germany, Turkey and Brazil
2.The complete Bombur mod tech tree
3.Each city will be assigned to a people and each people will have a different production modifier. This will make big empires dangerously vulnerable, as they extend to underdeveloped areas of the world (India, for instance, will be a production modifier=0.2)
4.Each turn will have 3 months, the game will have 240 turns
5.For now it will be a "all against all" war. If it works, a more sophisticated set of events will be used to simulate economic development and diplomacy
-If anyone has some suggestions, I´m ready to accept them.

India provided a lot more then 20 percent of potential to the British.

-Due to the huge population, yes, but the overall productivity of the Indian economy remained abysmal under British rule. Even worse, growth rates of the Indian economy from 1820 to 1950 were horrendous, as were population growth from 1870-1920 (due to the sucessives and disastrous famines of the 1870´s, 1890´s and 1900´s. In the game, India will have lots of cities, but very low productivity (0.2 vs 1.2 of British, 1.3 German and 1.7 USA)

Brazil will have productivity of 0.5.
Russia 0.7
China 0.4
Japan 0.7 (don´t forget the game starts in 1900)
France 1.1
Turkey 0.6

Bombur: I just want to point out that my worldmap was in no way finished when i uploaded it. I think it says so also. I just put it up there so that the work wouldnt go to waste. So i think a lot of cities, some rivers etc might be missing.

Otherwise i should just say. Keep going.

I am agreeing with you but being a smart ass at the same time. My point is, there is no base for his numbers.

-Grymme, I´m attempting to improve your map by adding new cities and checking the terrain. Some changes are needed but your work is great overall!

-Bartheart: British dominions (Canada, Australia and New Zealand) will have productivity=1

-Twotribes: I have no intention to create an accurate geopolitical simulation of XX century history. This is beyond my modding abilities (and free time) and I also fear the AT engine won´t be able to handle such a monster. Productivity is loosely based on estimates of national per capita income by Angus Maddison (for 1900). I compressed somewhat the values to avoid large differences between developed and underdeveloped countries. Overall, the values aren´t accurate, but neither they belong to a fantasy world. I´m, however, opened to suggestions from other gamers and will implement changes where necessary. I don´t see a reason, however, to make colonial India an economic powerhouse against all historical evidence.

Bombur: thanks. It would be great if you made the mapwork first. Then we could update the worldmap and people could use it for whatever global scenarios they would like.

Grymme, I will give priority to mapwork, but I´ve already done a lot of extra work. Is it possible to save the map only?

I´m going to change rivers. There are no streams in a world map, so we will have major rivers and impassable rivers (like the Nile, Mississipi and Amazon). It won´t be possible to build bridges in impassable rivers. I´m assuming that an impassble river will have more than 5km width. Tell me what you think about this change.

Hmmm...it seems the Mississipi river has a width below 2km. This would left the Amazon and the Nile as the only impassable rivers? Must take a look at Congo river.

The Congo river is usually more than 5km wide (to make things simpler I will consider only max. width), so we have, up to now, the Nile, the Amazon (plus Madeira and Solimões) and the Congo River.

Another impassable river will be the La Plata River (whose length is only 290km, it´s more an estuary than a river properly)

This project stalled due to troubles with Bombur mod AI.As I finally created a Bombur mod variant with a working AI, it will be used for this scenario (with 11 sides it will be impossible to have a human only game)

Restarted work with this scenario, finally. It will use Bombur AI tech tree. It´s possible it will need lots of events, but it won´t happen in early versions.
