Moving Resources and Oil

Post by ool »

I would like to know if you are going to streamline/improve the movement of oil and resources overland? Also supply for that matter. Principally i'm looking at the movement of oil and resources around Australia. Perth has oil and most parts of Australia do have RR and highways. Right now it seems there is very little movement of supply and other assets by rail or highway. Certainly the aussies could organise the Pacific version of the redball express and truck supplies to Darwin. Conversely RR should be able to move resources and supply between east coast cities and Perth. Any thought to having a GUI where the player could specify the amount of resources/oil/supply to be moved, by what means and to where?

Very good point. Or allow the player to set a minimum level of supplies or whatever he wants to have at a certain base.

I've done this for other games, and it's conceptually easy. You define a set of directed graphs with depots at the nodes and transport routes of various sorts attached to the edges. This becomes your logistics display. You attach transport forces to the edges and manage them on the main map. The game engine automatically moves the transport forces as necessary to ship the resources. You can even model maintenance automatically.

Hi all,

Andy, isn't there basic tool already implemented in WitP-AE where player can manually change the limits of supplies and fuel for each base?

IIRC this was implemented in Witp-AE and announced long long ago...

At the momement you can increase the "demand" level at a base so that supplies are more likely (well if they are available they do) move to that base. It is not implemented for fuel, oil or resorces.

In general oil and resources flow to ports, and this works.

Australia has NO demand for oil. IRL at this time Australia didn't refine oil to petroleum products, only finished products were shipped in.

Cheers

The game out, of course. I was being theoretical. "The difference between theory and practice is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is." (Tom Vogl)
