Did they make Assault harder?

Post by safemist »

In the old Talonsoft version, Assaulting Disordered units was really easy. Now it seems impossible. Even when I surround them, a few crappy D units can still easily resist Assault. Is that supposed to be the case?

The original Talonsoft assault rules are still available.  At the start of the game, when selecting options, just unclick the "Extreme Assault," and it'll default to the assault rules with which you are familiar.

None of the old scenarios were changed.
Adding turns was a pipe dream, in the minds of a few. It was/is not the answer.

As a side note, the Scenario Selector program that comes with the game allows you to change the number of turns as well as first side, etc.

I prefer the new assault rules except it might need a little more tweaking. As mentioned, one really has to pound down the strengths of platoons significantly before an assault is successful, perhaps unrealistically so. I had my 4 full strength infantry platoons fended off by a single strength, surrounded, 57mm AT gun in a bunker for 5 turns!? All the while it shooting and taking out more and more of my infantry.

Is morale taken into account with assaults?

Dave
After all these years I still love the old tactical games.

Yes, that is one of the key elements of the new assault rules. The higher the morale of the defending unit, the less likely the assault will succeed.

Junk,

What is the "Scenario Selector" program and how do you access it?
Thanks.

Windows Start, All Programs, JTCS, Scenario Selector

It allows you to see all of the scenarios you have, by game, sorted how you want. You can change first side, number of turns, and other things.

It was made by member cpdeyoung. Search for his posts for more details.
