Or a US submarine sink at the dock because there was no one below and they left the fresh water hose running (after filling batteries) ?[8|]
Oooh - i hadn't heard that one (and i've read a LOT about subs) [X(] - which sub was that??? [&:]

Try this one! http://www.history.navy.mil/library/special/guitarro.htm
I have been inputting my orders for the campaign game first turn since July 4, 2009. I'm getting close. In another month or two, I might be able to run the turn!

Yep , two years after Rickover's and the Navy's response to the loses of Thresher and Scorpion , the SUBASFE program . Well, at least it wasn't the reactor. But I belive the same thing happed to a Gato class SS in WW2. I'll research the particulars and get back. But it was no where near as embarrasing as it happening to a nuke boat. [8|]

Good grief...spent 6 years in the nuclear navy and NEVER would have believed that story had I heard it anywhere but here.  I even looked at the link to see if it was made up...and it wasn't!  The things you learn here!

The only good thing to say about this was that the ship wasn't commissioned, and was still in the "care" of the builders...

I was in Nuclear Power School class 70-1 at Mare Island and arrived just after repairs had begun on the Guitarro. Our school was on the opposite end of the base from where the sub was tied up, however, the whole base was strewn with all the wire that they pulled out of the Guitarro. Every strand of wire had to be removed. I expected to hear about the accident at every twist and turn of my training but the Navy obviously decided this was a shipyard problem and we were only reminded of it as we left the base and passed by all the wire.
