Need help in modifing factory scenarios

Post by candam »

I have just purchased Harpoon CE. I need to learn how to modify the given scenarios in each of the battlesets. (adding units, bases, names for ship units. I am still waiting for the Hard version that I purchased to arrive(Hopefully it has a complete manual). I keep a old DOS computer around to just play Harpoon. I just found out that it was available for my newer computer and want to get into it really bad. Can someone help me?

Welcome (back) aboard, shipmate.  [8D]

1. To start the Scenario editor, run the WSCENEDT.exe program.
2. Then select the Battleset you wish to work with.
3. Once the empty map appears, go under the File pull-down menu and select the "Edit Battleset Scenario" (Alt+B) and the list of available scenarios packaged with that battleset will appear.

Good luck to you everyone looks forward to trying out your new creations.

I can't find it. I understand the exe file (I do a little DOS programing). But anytime I try to click on the CE scenario editor it comes up with "unable to run 16 bit program". What am I doing wrong?

If you are by chance running Vista 64, you might want to look at:
http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=3440
Basically, if like me you have a "new" PC or laptop, chances are you're not only running vista, but vista 64.
As you might have noticed, it doesn't run any 16 bit programs, and HCE's Scenario Editor (WScenedt) is most definitely a 16 bit program.

If problems persist, you might want to post it up on the HCE sub-forum to get more eyes looking at it.

I am running XP Home w/ SP2. I bought CE because it was supposed to be designed for Windows. I personally do not like windows and prefer DOS,but I can not run Dos programs on my computer. I like to modify the (factory) scenarios to play what if scenarios.
Is there any way that I can open the editor from the start page? I don't nessecarily need to create large scenarios, just tweeking some of them is fine for me.

I'm running XP Home with SP3 and it is fine for me.  All I do is go into my HCE folder and click on the WSCNEDT icon.  I am puzzled why it doesn't seem to work for you.  I would suggest that you post a message in the HCE forum.  They might be able to lend you more assistance.

That's very odd. I know that the ScenEditor came with the HCE installation files for the game. Can you post up a list/screenshot of the files within your HCE game folder? Maybe you can uninstall and then try to re-install HCE. The ScenEditor is not an addition. It should be included with the normal game installation.

Here are what my icons look like. You should be seeing something similar. (I may have changed the icon for my WSCENEDT file. I can't remember)

All my icons look like the winharp 32. I have an icon for Larry Bonds Commanders edition
Scenario editor, but when I click on it it says" 16 bit operating system c\windows\system32\autoexec.nt - file not suitable for running ms-dos and windows apps." It gives me the option to either ignore or close. When I hit ignore it just closes.

Problem

Post by hermanhum »

At least you are clicking on the correct icon (Larry Bonds Commanders edition
Scenario editor), then.  [:)]

Do you have HCE installed to your Programs folder?  If so, you might want to try uninstalling and re-installing to a separate folder i.e. C:\HCCE

This is more a problem with Vista.  By all means, keep telling the HCE guys about your problem.  The HCE Programmer is listening and attends to all problems like this.

I moved the program to its own file in my "C" drive. I now have the correct icon. But when I click on it,it still comws up with 16 bit windows subsystem file not suitable for running ms-dos and windows apps.

Please take a look at http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1633589 , specifically the section about the SE not running.  I would guess that you had a virus attack once upon a time and the damage is still in place.  Post again as you need more help.
