DCG using 502 Heavy Panzer Battalion

Post by michael1776 »

Just out of curiosity has anyone played the Big Red 1 DCG using the 502nd Heavy Panzer Battalion? I shy away from it because it seems like it would get fairly boring using Tigers to destroy company after company of Stuarts. If anyone has any input it'd be great to hear.

Thanks,
Michael

I havn't tried it yet but on the Eastern Front we keep losing Tigers to Il-2 ground attack planes! Never seem to have enough AA halftracks! [:)]

You know .... I don't know if this is usefull to anyone ...

Over the past few weeks I've been developing a mod called "Tiger Support"... for battalion/regiment size DCG's.

This mod brings in small Tiger companies of 1 or 2 SP (with or without leader) into the campaign. The problem with running a normal campaign (using a basic Panzer Division) is that the game doesn't have enough points left to "select" a full Tiger company ... it costs too much!!

It's quite fun. There are several (if not a dozen) ways to bring in Tiger Support (in small volumes). The idea spawned last year when I was introducing the M10 and M18 TD's into a West Front battalion size camp. I switched to eatern front because I'm reading the book "Tigers In The Mud".

I've even made a mod for the DCG that introduces Tiger Aces into the scene ... In this case, it's Otto Carius, between 4/43-7/44. Other Aces can be dropped into your camp too ... Imagine Wittmann showing up in the month of 7/41 in his lone StugB, Bussard ... to once again save the day!

I figured nobody would be interested because it add's a personality to the game and it might make the player favor this unique unit ... but then again, we are playing a DCG and every unit in our OOB is special.

Let me know ... I can upload a workable mod, including a few variants on how to introduce a unique unit.
