Interesting Sea Battle

Post by Hard Sarge »

I noticed that most of the screen shots so far, always seem to show the ships sailing bow to bow into action, so I thought I would show some screens of a broadside to broadside battle

this starting set up for the defender, is more they are at ancor, they try to hold there line and let you come into them

which most battles this will set up a crossing the T type of battle

only, I got the English, and they can sail a bit better then most, I was able to close in, and tack into the wind, and then turn so I formed my own line

what was a major pain, I ended up, losing sight of the targets, due to smoke, so, each time, you got blocked in, you needed to close the range some more

from that top shot, you can see some of the smoke, but it got much worse, also, one of the target ships is on fire

now, the hassle was, what to do at the end of the line ?, had to tack into the wind again, turn and tack again

in the middle of the line, some ships got too close, and I broke away from the line, instead of turning into there line, so had to try and loop back around

very interesting battle

(looks much better zoomed in, but to show what is going on, I zoomed out)

up at the front of the line, was a plain murders row, I was able to trun back on the line, on either side of it

you can kind of see how the first two ships in the faired, they got there hulls shot out, the ship at the end of the line, stuck, as did the one on fire

that was a battle that the English could win, and win easy, the rest of the nations, would have to try and bull rush the line, and take there damage getting close enough to do damage

I think the point here is that naval novices like me simply tend to go in and thrash about with mixed results while people who are actually good at what their doing, can show what a proper naval battle can look like!  :)

Novices, and people who were trying to take a bunch of screenshots and didn't have the patience to fight a battle properly!

LOL

and the fact that I was the underdog and didn't have enough ships to bull my way though, and a third of my ships were frigates, I thought I would show how you can fight in other ways then as been shown

I have 3 of the French Fleets grounded (locked in port) this is the last one running, I sent Nelson after him, and hoped to catch him

which I did

I got numbers and I got SOLs, those can hurt you bad in a battle

got a funny wind this time, looks like it is on my side, but it is not letting me turn with it, so driving in close and then hopeing to turn

here is a info box on one of the enemy ships, he is in trouble, besides the damage, he has 2 cannons rolling around loose, each one will take away from any fire attack he makes

up the line some, you can see that I got a ship on fire, fires are even worse, they burn, and keep burning, doing damage each turn, the fire is still burning, and fire can spread

the French Fleet broke quickly, I was hoping for another round or two, but a Victory is a Victory

and the reason you want to control the seas

just not fair

the Grands are deep in Russia, another month and I am in Paris

Russia Surrenders, and the Grands come home, and slaughters one of my groups, the other turned and went back home

the French no longer has a battle fleet, but, that don't really matter much

talk about timing, needed to make my move two months earlier
