Quintessential warships

Post by macgregor »

In order to model ship types accurately I need to know what ship TOAW uses as it's current models. I believe someone thought the battleship model was patterned after HMS Barham. Is that true? Any thoughts on the other ship types?

Bob Cross used the Warspite as the model for the default battleship.
If you do a search for Ship Classes you should find a starting point for his naval system and my variant.
A good source for ship data is Matrix' War In The Pacific Editor.

Thank you Erik
Is there no one I can use to ask questions about the ODD like 'what is the significance of eqp1? Eqp2?' Not being able to get the bio-ed to work shouldn't be a problem since it seems I can make more accurate models with ODD. I'm still having some trouble with it though. While the AP values start with 4-digit numbers such as 6000 for the default BB which thanks to you we've now identified as the Warspite, when I try to edit these numbers ODD will not let me input more than 3 digits...weird. I'm realizing the group of people who can actually help me with this is a lot smaller than I originally thought. I'd like to contact this Bob Cross fellow. You've done some nice editing Erik. Can you help me some more with this?

I use a psudoname on this board.

Eqp1 is the graphic shown on the button for the equipment in, say, the inventory panel.

Eqp2 is the 3D graphic of the equipment (used in the 3D map modes and in the unit panel).

That's why BioEd needs all those graphic files - it displays these options for you. That (plus the fact that it decodes all the flags) makes it much easier to use.

Beyond that, I'm not much help on ODD. Wasn't that Curt's thing?

But I do assume you've seen my thread on Ship Class Design:

Yes, as I recall ODD is a product of Curt Chambers's work.

Thank you very much Bob
That's pretty much of what I've been asking. It's been suggested there is no way to vary unit movement, such as for ships. Me being the incurable optimist however, required a definitive word. I guess this is it. Movement allowance will be included in the title such as HMS Repulse(42) and enforced through house rules(albeit difficult to do so). I could use your formula, though for the sake having every ship in both theaters, interactive submarines, and values I've personally tested many times I'm leaning toward converting 'World in Flames' values`,unless someone can make a good argument why I shouldn't. If anyone can ask Curt Chambers why I'm having difficulty inputting 4-digit numbers into AP boxes(which oddly enough often start with 4-digits) I'd be extremely grateful. Converting the database values to game values seems like a simple question of doing the math (where necessary). Once I figure out how to enter 4-digit numbers into the ODD AP value, I'm off to the races. I'm sure there will be more questions, such as making my own terrain hex that looks like a cargo ship. Most of it I've thought out pretty well I think.

Well, wait until the next patch and you can use the optional bitmaps for this. http://www.operationalwarfare.com/post/ ... hrome.aspx

And his psuedoname here is "Raindem", I think.
