Mines and TF Unloading

Post by vettim89 »

Playing Big B 1.4 in September 1943. I have two TF's unloaing at Buin. There are considerable mines present. One or both of the TF cease unloading over the past three turns. Quite a few ships have hit mines. Could the presence of the minefield halt the unloading process? Been experiencing quite a few annoying things of late and was wondering if this is expected behavior or are we experience a bug of some sort?

Here's to give you an idea. These mine losses were at invasion sites that were amply escorted by minesweepers, including dedicated minesweeping TFs. The fields were massive, taking several days to clear even with up to 15 minesweepers working on it. BTW, every one of these hit a mine at Midway...some made it farther than others.

Well, the game (allegedly) is supposed to mirror real life... i'd expect that if some TF ran into 1000's of mines and a bunch of ships were on fire and sinking, things might not proceed as well as you'd like, however, i don't recall unloading stopping entirely.*

However, sometimes (depending on a "die roll") these things are under control of the local commander, and just as TFs will sometimes stop before reaching a destination (or even run away), the local commander might have elected to halt things.

You might check out how good a commander this fellow is (i'd look at Naval and Admin ratings.) If you can replace him, that might help (it might be difficult or impossible to do this outside a friendly base, though).

*EDIT - i've never had the misfortune to experience extreme conditions like this - yet.

Maybe they were spending too many Ops points picking up survivors?

Only one ship has actually sunk but talk about some ugly TF Displays. I'll post some screenies next turn
