And Yet Another New One!

Post by Wild Bill »

I just finished playing Figmo's magnificent scenario, "Sounds in the Night." It's a gritty portrayal of intense night fighting among the bocage of Normandy prior to the St.Lo breakout. The map is one by the old map maker himself, Bryan Marauder Mel. The scenario is the work of my exec, Figmo. Great team!

For those who think that SP is a "tank" game, think again! Here is a pure infantry scenario that will grab your gut. There is a hole in your lines and you have to fill it. But how? Your entire front line is threatened. Who do you move? How many do you move? Can you risk reducing the infantry on the line? Where is A Co?

It's a nail biter and was until the 10th turn, when a final suicidal charge of the Fallshirmjager impaled itself on my bayonets!

A beautifully orchestrated scenario. You really will enjoy this one. I've already posted in the Game Depot of SPWAW. Go to Matrix>Our Games> Game Depot and grab it.

Here is what it is about...Wild Bill

-------------------------

SOUNDS IN THE NIGHT

St. Lo., France, July 11 1944. U.S. Army Delay vs German Paratrooper Assault.

This scenario is based on fact and is taken from a book called "Clay Pigeons of St. Lo" by Glover S. Johns, copyright January 1985.

The situation:
It is 1:30 in the morning, German Paratroopers and Engineers have launched a night attack all along on your battalion line. You are the American Battalion commander (1st Battalion, 115th Infantry, 29th Division), your field phone lines to your troops are out and there is no contact with Able Company (on the right side of the line) at all.

The sound of gunfire is moving toward your right rear where your 81mm Mortars are. If they get past the Mortars they will be in Regiments frontyard.

Will Able Company and parts of Baker Company regroup to stop the breakthrough and can you hold the rest of the line? To make matters worse Regiment doesn't believe it is much of a threat and won't send any reinforcements or much Artillery support.
You must decide who goes to find Able Company and who stays to hold the line - You are on your own.

The Map:
The map was created by Marauder Mel for a different scenario. With his OK, I used it for this scenario. It is typical of the terrain in that part of France.

Played it last night and today. The nightime limited visibility really changes things. Barely held the line. A real intense fire-fight. My game was over in 7 turns. Suffered 130+ casualties to the German 330+, but was able to retain all victory hexes.
Good scenario, I'd play more like it.

I echo Major Ed's sentiments Wild Bill. We need more scenarios like this one. Incredibly intense .. I held on, but boy were we stretched thin!!! Thanks for a really great scenario.

There will be more. Figmo outdid himself on this one, his best to date. It has been modified a bit but its still the same nail biter it was.

Had a slight problem with the outposts but that has been fixed and uploaded to the depot.
