I´ve moved 200 Betties/Nells to Maumere to attack the uncapped Derby. This is the base where 200+ 4Es are coming from and all were sitting at the base today. Well, 120+ bombers failed to locate the base but 80 bombers with 80+ exp crews dropped their bombs - to achieve two hits on the runway that do nothing...

In return, 5 bombers are lost to ops... Yes! We do suffer from flying 12 hexes! The fact that we attack a target at safe height and with elite crews doesn´t help the Japanese at all. Fly one hex and lose a couple of bombers, that´s how it looks like... ridicoulos.

And I can´t go in lower as even at 21.000 ft, the Allied flak would take down two dozen of my bombers... minimum...

it´s really ridicoulos. Miller doesn´t have to even think about Capping his bases as he knows that his flak is so strong I can´t afford to attack his bases below 26.000!!!!!!! ft... [>:]

first deliberate attack and the result is a joke. Remember my shock attack? Caused 300 losses within the Allied and 4.000+ within my units. Now the Allied attack and we suffer more casualties and get a ridicoulosly low adjusted av even though we are defending with the multiplier of a wooden hex. Doesn´t look like it would be a problem for the Allied to supply those troops over the trails coming from Lautern.

And here´s the news on the strategic level. Miller is going to attack New Caledonia within the next turns...

this is the beginning of a series of stupid split up strikes against half a dozen spotted TFs that are moving towards Noumea. Miller comes in with only a few TFs, this doesn´t stop the engine from sending sh*tty looking strikes against the incoming convoys.

But what is really amazing me is the number of Allied fighters on Cap. Man, that´s a joke Paul. 201 Allied fighters? On what carriers? CV Wasp, CV Enterprise? A CVL? 1 or 2 CVEs? (CVE Long Island was spotted). We have identified 3 VF, 2 British squadrons and 2 USMC squadrons. For me this pretty much looks like a US CV TF loaded up with only or in the best case with mostly fighters. There is no house rule against this, but hey, using fighter CV TFs only is mmmmm....

Two US CVs are sunk, one was heavily damaged with three torps. All British CVs were heavily damaged not long ago, all taking at least 4x800kg AP bombs. So in fact I had more or less "nothing to fear about". If you take a couple of CVs/CVLs/CVEs and you load them up with fighters only you can of course drive around with more fighters than you would have using 5 US fleet carriers (max stacking limit per hex). With 36 fighters each, this would bring you up to 180 fighters, but this TF has 201 fighters on Cap with far less than 5 US fleet carriers.

I have to say that I do find such a tactic strange, but hey, this of course opens up a lot of possibilities for me also. What´s good for the goose... Why not loading up KB with fighters only and place it at Koepang with 300 land based fighters? Even with the crappy Cap rates I get this would mean 350+ fighters on Cap and this would wreck all incoming strikes for sure. But it´s a more than strange thing to repeat myself.

When the spotted squadrons are full strenght than this would bring the total number of fighters to around 220, would they be set to 90% (which I expect) then there would be 198 in the air, so we´re not far away from those numbers. Unfortunately an Allied ability only, even in 42.

Paul did not break any house rule of course as such a rule didn´t exist.

Due to the high morale, the stupid split up strikes and the appearance of a couple of Allied "fighter CVs" we lose nearly 100 high exp IJN pilots! What a great day! In this game you don´t have to just think about what numbers of CVs your opponent can send in, but also "what aircraft are on those CVs"... In this case I have paid for it. Normally, there shouldn´t have been a bigger Cap than perhaps 60-90 Allied fighters (depending on the Cap settings) and that´s why I even moved in my bombers and Zeros. Of course with the composition of my strikes, even then all my ac would have been shot down.

Noumea has no value for me, the only reason I took it is to get a shot at an upcoming invasion with my airforce but this of course turned out to be a total drawback today.

Not to forget the fact that a dozen Kinfisher flew the obligate "recon before the Allied BBs nuke a base". So I also expect to see the absolutely stupid nuke due to an even more stupid detection level routine tomorrow. Funny game...

Also here, Paul isn´t doing something forbidden, there is no hr against using those float planes to raise the detection level high enough to enable nukes all the time.

bombardments alone will be enough to kill off my units...

With Noumea lost in a couple of days the Allied will score 1400 points for the base and this will bring the victory point ratio back to around 5:1 again. But that will mean that the Allied will still be far away from the 3.99:1 to avoid the Japanese auto victory. And with Sian´s 100.000 troops surrendering within this year I will score 700-800 points for that alone.

I´m not beaten yet, with the recent developments and "tactics" I will just adopt mine also and am already planning something BIG. Stay tuned...

Where's KB... it would be lovely to strike fighter based CV tf parked outside Noumea.

You are just wasting pilots and planes with these small scale attacks here and there. Mass everything that floats and flys and strike hard in one place. After all, when hordes of Thunderbolts, Lightnings, Corsairs and Hellcats join the party it's game over. Strike hard now while you still have some chance to inflict significant damage!

What are other benefits of this mod? [:o] What about Jack and George? Availability, performance?

I don´t want to engage a US CV TF with KB, the "leakers" (which would be 80% of the bombers [:D]) would kill KB in no time. I was wrong about the loadout of the US CVs, see more in my next post - I proved to be a dork once again.

The Jack? lol, early 44. The George? lol, early 44. No idea how they will perform though, I doubt I will make it to early 44, honestly. The only ac I can look forward to is the Tony at the moment and it will be available in..... about 10 monts... [:(]

I stated in my last email to Paul: "interesting number of fighters for the low number of undamaged CVs you have" and he felt that I thought he would have used a fighter death star and therefor he gave me info about his CV TF composition. Would have been enough if he would have said that he did not swap out his bombers with fighters, he shouldn´t have give me so much info. Anyway, I have withdrawn all my aircraft before this info.

See below what Miller brought. This was somewhat shocking as I´ve thought the Allied carrier force has been trashed with the recent events. Well, that´s the problem with doing multiple turns every day, as you think you killed a carrier "yesterday" but actually it´s months ago already in game time. Proved to be an idiot for thinking that Miller would use what I called a "strange" tactic. Sorry for that!

Hornet 36, Yorktown 36, Lexington 36, Wasp 30, 2 CVE's 40 = 178 F4F

1 Brit CV and 1 CVL = 47 Seafire.

The only extra fighters at he expense of DB/TB is 16 Seafire on the CVL Hermes......which I doubt would have made any difference at all.

unbelievable how much damage a couple US art rgts do within my INF units! Yes, inf units, there´s no HQ unit in the lead. I´m only used to such high losses if a HQ or support unit is in the lead of the stack. The damage done is even more surprising as the attacker has to be supplied over 120 miles of trails, but I´m repeating myself.

the biggest problem is that the attacker usually nearly suffers no dead at all, while the defender usually suffers more dead during an attack. So in this case, all that happens is that the landing divisions will need some weeks to recover their disabled squads.

Guess when I get fighters with decent stats there won´t anything I can do with them anymore. The IJNAF will get the Zeke in mid 43, but that´s no improvement over the A6M2, not much faster, less maneuverable, half the range but armor and a 7,7mm MG (that can´t hurt any Allied aircraft) is replaced with a 12,7mm MG.

No details about my evil plan yet. Miller asked me yesterday why I´m reconning Northern Australia and if I would be up to a belated invasion. Lol, I´ve told him I plan to land at two bases or even three, all covered by KB that will be equipped with missile armed Zekes to take on the unescorted Allied bombers. To start off my attack, my long range Betty bombers will torch a hundred 4Es on the ground just like they´ve done it recently from 26.000ft. [:D] The Aussies will be forced to surrender, then I will take back Timor and New Caledonia of course.

It will be a big operation and as soon as my troops are ordered to attack I will give more info on it.

On Zond´s special request, some screenshots. Starting with the "world" map. As you can see, we took nearly all of India, only Karachi is left and will never be attacked. Perhaps at some stage of the war, I could attack Ceylon, or the troops there just starve to dead like the Allied troops did at Port Moresby.

Timor is the most important area of the Allied advance at the moment but the Allied troops are bogged down at Dili now. With the Allied carriers near New Caledonia at the moment I don´t fear a shipborne invasion in this area the next weeks. New Caledonia gives Miller some important points but I´m still ahead and it will be more than difficult to avoid a Japanese autovictory in 6 weeks.

China is more or less out of the war but there are still hundreds of thousands Japanese troops, so we will see what will happen the next 6 months.

Next one is China. Sian is about to fall, I´ve got 6.000+ assault points in that area. Then we will have to decide what else will happen in China. This will depend a lot on the progress the Allied will be able to make into the SRA. When the Allied manage to advance (there´s no doubt they will, the question is only at what costs) then I will have to take on RUSSIA! To be able to take on Russia I will have to knock out the Chinese Army at Kweiyang and that will be a bloody affair. There are nearly 6000 assault points, level 9 forts and it´s a wooden hex. This means trouble, but I´m sure that the Chinese supply situation is nearing a desperate situation. Flanking Kweiyang won´t be a real option, North and South are wooden hexes, West of it is a mountaineous hex, so movement will take forever and supply of the troops would be a problem. We will see. In any case, next target is Sian, I don´t expect much of a problem to kill off those 100.000 starved Chinese troops. Level 9 forts will help them though.

Timor area. The enemy advance is stuck at Dili, I doubt Miller will try to move in more divisions from Lautern as this would make a Japanese counter attack with 5 or 6 divisions on Lautern possible. Even if the enemy bombers from Northern Australia would be able to cause trouble, I doubt they would be able to stop an invasion. No way...

The focus at the moment is down South at New Caledonia but that´s an unimportant area for me, it´s only worth a lot of points but that´s it. Miller will meet heavier resistance when he will attack the Solomons for example. The further North he will get the more I will throw in, but that´s nothing unusual...

there was no doubt that the base will fall easily even while not knowing what exactly the Allied have brought. As it turned out this turn, there were no less than 5 divisions! Assault points wise, the landing did cost the Allied one division in disabled squads. Noumea is temperate zone and there´s a level 6 port, level 4 airfield so many squads will be combat ready soon, I expect the troops to return to Australia though. With the big port, most of the Allied AKs that were hit during the landing will probably make it, so far only one was reported sunk. The invasion of New Caledonia was a rather unsuccesful attempt to hurt the Allied, my stupid attack on the enemy CVs only hurts me.

We will be able to fly out enough troops from our three units that all three will be built up to full strenght soon again.

oh yes, sorry, forgot about the Allied troops at Manila, but they are only acting as training targets. Delhi was cleared a couple of weeks ago, it fell easily to my TK rgts. "Only" Karachi left in India and this is a nogo for me. The Allied will build up there, accumulating thousands of assault points there. At some point they will either try to break out or a big invasion will be going out of the town to land troops somewhere further South. With Karachi still Allied, Miller gets lots and lots of ships as reinforcement also, as soon as a ship shows up there it leaves port, probably heading to Australia. This made me think about attacking Ceylon soon, I could then base a couple of CVEs at Colombo to interdict the shipping lanes going South from Karachi. But for the moment, there are more important things to do.

To be honest, I don´t care much about the autovictory. Even if I achieve autovictory, the probably unstoppable attack into the SRA is winning the war for the Allied sooner than real life, so I would say this would then be a decisive Allied victory, no matter how many points I have. In any case, taking Manila just to score an autovictory is no option for me at the moment. And is it looks now, I will still score the autovictory in 6 weeks, only at a somewhat reduced ratio than two days ago. [;)]

At Manila, there are still some 30.000 Allied troops starving to death. Noumea is worth the same amount of victory points for the Allied like Manila, for the loss of Noumea I would have to either take Manila (I won´t) or to score 5.500 points for something else if I want to keep up the 4:1+ ratio.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF 1024 encounters mine field at Lautem (33,78)

SS KXIII, Mine hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

nice one! Type 88 sub laid mine kills a second class sub at Lautern. IIRC this sub was hit by a nav search ac before and immediately sinks after the mine hit. With DM Prebble being sunk by such a mine, this is only the second more important Type 88 mine hit. Killed half a dozen PTs also with Type 88s. The last couple of days were bad for the Allied sub force, three subs sunk...

And else there´s nothing happening. So far, three Allied AKs were reported sunk at Noumea. Hopefully there will be a couple more but I doubt it. Next turn should be a surprise for Miller. Should...

and another big one in the afternoon! Great result, all those tankers were fully loaden with fuel! I guess we have destroyed at least 200.000 tons of fuel today and have probably sunk 14 or 15 tankers and 4 or 5 sub chasers for the loss of a couple Kates! BANZAI! BANZAI! BANZAI!

In the long run this is of course also only a small victory and only a little morale boost, it doesn´t change anything of the current strategic situation. With all this fuel lost, I guess this has bought us a week or two. All those CV/BB/CA... in Australia will need a lot of fuel and the loss of all those TK should not make the Allied fuel situation any better there. [:)]

Greenpeace won't be happy.[:D]

Maybe it's not an awful blow indeed, but it still is important.  Fuelling his massive armadas requires massive amounts of fuel, and the trip West Coast-Australia is very long, especially as you have most of the SEPac islands.  Bases from which KB can refuel before dashing to intercept other convoys.
This result should hopefully convince him to allocate more escorts to his convoys, so less boats for front-line duty.  Perhaps he'll also route his convoys even further away, causing more delay in the supply/fuel buildups.[:)]

Well done, I was wondering what you'd do with KB.  I was betting on the Timor area, I was wrong.

using more escorts wouldn´t help him, in this case the losses would have just been more severe. Of course he could use a couple of CVs but I guess that´s not worth it and not doable with all the convoys going from the West coast to Koala land.

And it wasn´t KB... [;)] only a couple of slow CVs. KB (450 ac) is in combat position if my opponent tries to do an attack where I don´t want him to attack.
