Strategic Movement out of encirclement

Post by Chocolino »

Hi, I am a newbie.

Just noticed that the AI (V1.30) uses strategic movement to save encircled units out of a pocket. Is that intended? If there is a city supply point in the pocket, one could - with some stretch - imagine an airport and air transport. (but those tanks are heavy.....) However, if the pocket is somewhere out there in "the woods", this is harder to understand.

Not even sure any more if this happened while units in the pocket where still in supply (because of how supply is determined in the turn order) or even afterwards.

True, Strategic Movement is limited, so in a larger pocket, only a few units can be saved. If this is an intended feature, I can live with it. Just curious if somebody knows why this is.

Thanks,
Cornel

I always excuse it based on the theory that this is an "I go, You go" game in a simultaneous world.  It is only the non Axis coalitions, with their second and third phase moves who can do this.  I do not remember if this is addressed in the coming changes or not, but "going to zero" on encirclement is going to be addressed, so this may be too.

The Axis who have their supply determined just before their turn cannot use Strat Move when unsupplied.  The Allies, and Soviets who are checked at the start of the whole turn, are not "really" out of supply in their first phase of encirclement.  Phases, turns and such can make this complex.

Thank you for the explanation. Now I understand.
(Yes, it were the Russians who strategically drove off in boats across a lake they were backed against.)

I agree, not a game breaker. Nice it it were addressed in future patches.
