Ki-44-IIB Tojo in 1/42

I am playing a PBEM, scen 15, stock. We are in the middle of January, 1942 and the Japanese already has Tojos. I know from my own experience playing Japan that they dont appear until 10/42. How is this possible?

The IJAAF fielded a small operational testing unit with pre-production Ki-44's at the beginning of the war. That's how.

There is one experimental unit that is available from the get-go ... [edit] too slow!

And no replacements until 7/42, so you really only get limited use with them. Which was the point as it was an operational evaluation squadron.
