Lunga has turned into a dark red x. 400 heavy bombers are being sent to deal with it.
Repairs are progressing nicely. I should be able to leave port by Nov 1.
Subs have arrived from all over and are now blanketing the slot. If the KB or BBs pay another visit to Tassaforonga someone should take a pot shot at them . Who know, maybe I will get lucky.
3 Jap AKs have been spotted headed for Lunga. Since my AC are busy attacking the base, a small surface TF has been sent to Lunga to greet them

Air raid on Lunga lost 5:1 in the air but overall destroyed 2x as many as lost due to ground kills. The base in now totally shut down. The fact that any AC flew disturbs me becuase this means there is still supply there. I had hoped that the base was starving. At least I intercepted and sank the AK bringing supplies.
Clear weather means more strikes on Lunga and one on Munda for next turn.

Another good day of air strikes but LR CAP continues to take a toll on my bombers. Sallys from Munda sank 3 of my subs so hopefully the attack on their base drove them off.
The large number of Jap transports destroyed on the ground at Munda leads me to believe that Lunga is getting supplied by air.

Another bloody day in the air. I just can't seem to shut Munda down. AC from here hit another 2 subs which will likely sink. Both have made emergency stops at Tulagi with 95 float damage. Maybe they can draw a strike and cause an Ops loss before they sink.
It has started to rain so they heavies will be grounded for a while. They need the rest.
Fleet is still on pace to depart PH on November 1st.

Quite turn. Ships have been headed down the slot. I don't know if they are bombardment or Fast Trasnport TFs. Should be interseting next turn. Recon over Russell island spotted 70 Fighters and 70 transports but no CAP came up to meet the recon. If they are LR CAPping Lunga they may be leaving their base unprotected. B-24s have been sent to find out.

Not a good day for the Allies. The KB and friends have blocked the slot. I have spotted several transports with them so I can only hope that they are going for a counter landing. More likely the are going to resupply, reinforce, or evacualte Lunga.
In the DEI my raid at Kendari ran into a wall of fighters and got shredded. Air losses for the day were 2:1 against and they only thing that prevented total disaster was ground kills.

Interesting bit of trivia for you. You mentioned "The Slot". I learned from reading Dawn Like Thunder that it was the Marines that referred to it as "The Slot". The Navy referred to it as "The Groove".
I know it's disappointing to not get to bag 45k(+) bad-guys. Had that happen to me a few times in my game vs. Bilbow (I had all but cut off 3+ IJA Divs at Rangoon, but they squirted out a turn before I could close the noose). Look on the bright side, you'll still capture Lunga (probably with very few losses), and it points out that you have the initiative (at least locally).
If he's retreating, you're probably doing something right.
-F-
"It is obvious that you have greatly over-estimated my regard for your opinion." - Me
Groove, slot, crease, furrough, it is all the same. 5 of my subs have been sunk so "Iron bottom sound" is accurate too. [:D]
Now I am not so sure that units have been withdrawn. Recent recons can't tell if units have been pulled out, added, or both. I should have boots on the ground soon to find out.
Tassafornga got pummeled but the good news is that the KB is withdrawing. I have a PT boat TF and a surface TF on the way to raid Lunga and all bombers have been set to attack. It looks like the baby KB is covering some transport TFs and a surface TF at Lunga. Sparks should fly this turn.

Things are coming to a head at Lunga. My invasion fleet got attacked by unescorted Bettys and my fighters shot down 100 for a loss of 2 Wildcats. I now am faced with the decsion of continuing on to Lunga or diverting to another base.
I have ordered an attack at Lunga with the forces at hand for next turn. The fleet is going to pull into the slot and wait for next turn. If the ground attack makes progress I will divert to Munda where I have spotted 200 fighters, 60 bombers, and 200 aux AC. The ground troops are reported at 26K with 300 guns so I estimate about 600-700AV. I have a US RCT and 2 NZ brigades already on the way to invade Russell Is where I have spotted 3 base forces. 48 P-38s have flown into Tassaforonga to help with air cover. I have also ordered a 200 B-24 strike on Munda for this turn. I have a feeling that Gordon will lower the CAP in an effort to break through my CVs' CAP so I am hoping to catch them on the ground.
4 Brit BBs are going to bombard Lunga before today's ground attack and if needed I have 15 more in the area for tomorrow. If they are not needed they will hit Munda.
I also have the option of bypassing Munda with my troops (about 2500 AV) and going for Shortlands, Vella, and Buin
In India the first wave of the invasion fleet landed and hit way too many mines. The fleet has withdrawn due to loading errors that made it 80% supplies. They should be back with the rest of the troops in 2 weeks.

I always felt it best to avoid protracted land combat against the Japanese unless absolutely necessary. Use Fast Transports TF, transport & patrol planes to move troops around quickly. If he forward deploys too much, avoid them and proceed up the Slot/Groove.
FYI - Your little "banzai" guy doesn't look too good on a Allied AAR.
