Upgrades

Post by DonMichUP »

Lots and LOTS of internet and forum bickering, debating, pros, and cons regarding various versions such as 3.6 VS 3.7, etc. But I'm ready to take the risk and see for myself what is what. All I see for sale is 3.7, so my question is, will I be able to upgrade to 3.8, 3.9, whatever, free of charge? I'm assuming yes... but we all know what "assume" 'means'. [;)]

All 3.7+ updates are free if you have purchased 3.7.

Thanks!

So my question of "will I be able to upgrade to 3.8, 3.9, whatever, free of charge?" is "yes"?

All the patches that are freely available from Matrix can be found:

ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/

A demo is also available:

http://www.computerharpoon.com/public/H ... mo_394.exe

as well as a list of known ANW issues: * Known Harpoon [ANW] Issues

Hermanhum: I just checked out your patch link ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/ and there were no files there. Viewers 'can' go up to a higher level directory tho. Harpoon3ANW is listed as a directory. Thought maybe you should know.

You may have to hit the Refresh Screen a couple of times.

You should see this:

Ok. Just tried that. 8 times. Nothing but the same page. I'm using Firefox rather than IE. Could that be a factor? Btw, would it be best to upgrade from 3.7 in steps... ie, 3.8 and then 3.9x?

Howdy,

To be clear: Yes, if you purchase Harpoon 3 ANW (3.7) you can upgrade to any update release since its release free of charge. They are available by the ftp link given by Herman and also the Matrix member services.

Thanks,

Ok, and I thank both you and Herman. Still can't open that ftp page, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Thanks again.

Once you purchase 3.7.0, I recommend these patches:

ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3A ... 80-Inc.zip
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3A ... 3900DR.zip
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3A ... 2bComp.zip
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3A ... x-v393.zip

Some may be redundant, but I have experienced some problems when I skipped on.

For the least number of problems, grab the PlayersDB:
Complete Harpoon ANW Library

Just install it in the same manner as you would the game patches.

Looking forward to an MP game with you sometime. [8D]

Well, I paid for the game, installed it, played around with it for 9 hrs (lol), and, have had around five crashes with it. I was mistaken in the version... it is 392DR. So do I still unzip and install the V392BComp, and then the UpdateHotFixv393? Should I install the first one, then reboot before installing the 2nd? I sure hope those fixes "fixes" things [X(]. Now I remember why I did all-nighters when I played the dos version (5-6 discs) some years ago... it's addicting!

I wouldn't bother re-booting before installing another patch. I would just install 392B then 393. Once 393 is installed, you might want to re-boot.

The next time you get a crash, don't immediately re-start, please. If you have time, please go into your ANW folder and look for a crash file like: crash_H3_b0.txt

It might show something like:
=====================================================
Crash information for this process:
A crash occurred at address:
0x48d45a
Access violation: The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access. An attempt was being made to read the address.

For address: 0x533bf0 :

Reports like that can be attached to this sub-forum and may help in the location and prevention of future bugs. Wow, 5 crashes! That even beats my record. [:D]

You're not the only one who has lost track of time while playing. We have played 9hr sessions, slept, and come back to play ANOTHER 9! [8D]

Ok, and thanks. Lol... I wish I HAD that much time [:)]. I will do those upgrades tomorrow (well, later today!). I'm also looking at the PlayersDB that you mentioned (http://www.harplonkhq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13). I'm seeing:
Get the PlayersDB 8.1.1-ANW
Get the PlayersDB 8.1.1
Get the PlayersDB 7.4.7-ANW
Get the PlayersDB 7.4.7
Get the PlayersDB 6.4.9-ANW
Get the PlayersDB 6.4.9
Get the PlayersDB 5.9.7
What the heck one do I need??

Those are all archived versions. You need only worry about the latest at all times:

Harpoon ANW users can get the:
Complete Harpoon ANW Library

Don't forget to switch the DB manager to:
