OT: QUestion for any PC Gurus

Post by Dereck »

I'm having a problem with my Recycle Bin on my laptop. Whenever I empty out the recycle bin the laptop freezes and I have to CTL-ALT-DEL and kill the windows explorer session.

When I looked at the C:\RECYCLER directory on the laptop I see two folders:
S-1-5-21-369..... 2/20/2009
S-1-5-21-415..... 8/3/2007

When I check on my desktop on the C:\RECYCLER directory I only see one such folder.

Can anybody explain what's going on and, more importantly, what I can do to clear this up? My first inclination is to delete one of the folders but without knowing what's going on that could possibly make things worse.

Thanks

Without knowing more, I'd say you've got a download trojan onboard that is using a file you're trying to delete as a host.
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

Not possible. The laptop is for my Oracle use and is not connected to the internet at all.

Then restore everything from the recycle bin and delete item by item until you come to the file or folder that is causing the problem.

First thing I'd do is move all files in your Recycle bin into your Anti-Virus Vault, especially any dated 2/20/90.

From a command prompt (Start --> Run, type "cmd"), enter the following and press enter.

rd /s /q c:\recycler

This will delete the recycle bin, reboot, windows will recreate, and you should be good to go.

You may have to do this for other drive letters as well...
