Persian Arrival

Post by lordhoff »

Been playing a host of states in this campaign - currently Bythnia which requires 28 cities as victory condition. I've had 18 for like 10 years of game time now (as fast as I take one, the Persians take one of mine). Got a question: do the Persians ever stop spawning 5-level armies? If not, this is a never ending scenario and it would be a good thing to start again. So far, they've assaulted a single city some 20 times with 5-level armies and they just keep a coming. I'm hoping that exhaustion is built in at some point; if for no other reason then so I can see how many losses the Persians took. Has to be about 20,000 just from me (at least they seem to have forgotten about the two other remaining states - Mysia and Lydia.

Great game; it's just this particular scenario seems to be going in circles.

Hey, if I reply to myself, is that the same as talking to myself? [:D]

I trudged on and, low and behold, the Persians stopped piling up bodies outside my city. They did continue chasing me around for a while but they either then used up the troops direct from Persia or I took enough cities that they had to rebuild after retaking them that they ran out of juice. Took a while but I did get that additional set of ten cities allowing a scenario victory. I use "very hard", BTW. It seems like this is the setting where the AI and I can develop at roughly the same pace (ie, in lower settings, I'd have better unit types well before the AI developed them). I'm wondering if that is what you all have found too? Um, concidering the number of answers, I'm assuming there is a "you all". [8|]

Lordhoff,

I haven't bought this title yet.  It is on the "in the future", but I do enjoy reading posts here when they occasionally pop up.

I just did not want you to feel all alone there buddy, so I posted. [;)]

Happens a lot to me [:(] [:D]. I have a large backlog so, often, by the time I get to them, interest has waned. I have one that has been revamped and Matrix is no longer supporting it that I haven't even taken out of the box. Oh well. Get the game sooner then later; I've found that waiting for one like this could mean it disappears. There are a lot of city states to try in different campaigns each with their own victory conditions so there's quite a bit of game for the money with this one.

I don't remember the Persians ever running out of troops. Every 5-7 years and another invasion. The ai has a hard time teching up its cities/armies to match yours. There's a mod on Slitherine's site that addresses it quite well. Been a while since I played. Enjoyable series of games.

Thanks - I'll check that out.

I may have just got lucky with the Persians - they could have been in the process of moving in a huge army and I hit the gap.
