Selecting Leaders

Post by montesaurus »

One thing I find annoying about WITP is the fact that you have to scroll through hundreds of leaders to find the right guy for a fighter squadron, or a carrier fleet, etc.
In the admiral's edition will there be a way to perhaps request the type of leader you want? Say, I need a fighter commander. It would be nice to hit a button showing all of the fighter commanders and their ratings. Is this something that anyone else has addressed, or thought about? Thanks.

Not specifically by "type" of leader. However, you can sort the leaders by rankings (naval, air, land, admin, aggression) whatever you feel is better for the type you are replacing. Some people value aggression as the highest for a fighter squadron leader with air 2nd and some would do it the other way around. This way you can sort them down and see for yourself. A patrol squadron you might want a high admin for rest and repair since they will likely be flying high percentage of their aircraft every day for example.

According to the list published a while back on what leader ratings do, aggressiveness does not appear to have an impact on fighter or air at all. That being said, the program always seemed to prize agressiveness for fighter squadron commanders. I thought it was said that the earlier list was comprehensive with respect to WitP leader ratings. Has this been changed for AE?

Well one thing aggression does is keeps a unit from (or forcing a unit to) abort an attack in progress from casualties. Low aggression leaders will abort with just a few damaged/destroyed aircraft. How many times have you watched the replay and see it go from like 24 aircraft to 6 for example? And then when you see the result only like 3 airplanes were lost and 2 damaged? You failed a leader aggression roll and the squadron aborted.

Edit: Sometimes a low aggression is good. 40 TBDs come in unescorted vs 200 Zeros. Low aggression leaders will get you out of that will as few losses as you are going to. High aggression leaders will result in 40 openings for TB pilots.

I think what montesaurus was trying to say:

In the Air leaders list I think there are 4 best suited skills Fighter group, Bomber group, Patrol Group or Transport Group.

The only way to find a leader with Transport group as his skill you need to click though all the leaders.

What montesaurus wants to know is if this list can be filtered buy these skills or can we have leaderName(T) for transport so you can quickly scan the list for the skill you want.

Yes, but what the others are saying is the AI opinion of what makes a good fighter leader, for example, is not necessarily what a human would agree with. AE allows you to sort the characteristics so you can more easily make a decision on what you consider best.

That message "so and so would make a good fill in the blank leader" works basically like this:

Sort all air leaders by aggression. Anything over 64 is a "fighter leader". Sort all leaders by air. Anything with an air over 64 is a "bomber leader", anything with an admin over 64 is a "transport leader". It isnt like those actually mean something. Just tells you one of his attributes is over 64.
