What is a "Brendenburger", and does it taste like a Hamburger??

Post by ivantheterrible »

Hello folks, I first saw Brendenburgers at a MCLV scenario. Then recently I started MCNA and saw them again in one of the first desert battles. So I'm just curious who they were, where the name came from, and how well did they do? Anyone have a brief summary of their history? Thanks

Over the years I have collected a lot of website links that have to do with WW2 and the various armies involved...just a hobby of mine I guess.:)
Any time I can be of assistance, just let me know.

The German Spec Ops Units in SPWaW

Post by KG Erwin »

Are, IMHO, a hybrid of the Brandenburger units and the other special units (the parachute assault unit that neutralized Fort Eben Emael) I read about in James Lucas' "Kommando: German Special Forces in WWII" . In other words, the German Spec Ops units in SPWaW could be considered "Brandenburgers" or some other unit such as the Skorzeny commandos or the special Luftwaffe units that were created. An interesting point: the movie "The English Patient" features one "Count Almasy", played by Ralph Fiennes. Count Almasy WAS an actual Abwehr (German Intelligence Unit run by Admiral Wilhelm Canaris) agent who did run German agents deep into Egypt years before the war and during Rommel's campaign. Watch the movie--some of it (not all) is based on fact.
