Fleet HQ's

Post by vettim89 »

Just curious if fleet HQ's will have the same function in AE as WITP? Their sole role in WITP was to enhance repair. Well, they did add support to the base so I guess maybe "sole" is not accurate.

The truth is the fleet HQ's in RL were more oriented towards operational planning. The Combined Fleet, 3rd Fleet, and 5th Fleet were typically at sea commands. I don't know if it is possible, but they should effect things like replenishment, Ops points, etc.

If it is SAIEW, could we see the addition of a Pacific Fleet HQ at PH. The Allied sole fleet command is Asiatic Fleet starting in PI. The Japanese have a bunch to start the war with. Seems to be historically inaccurate

The thing is that you, the player, are now the Fleet HQ. So there isn't much ways to change it to more than administrative/political resquesting supplies resources.

Fleet HQs will have some of the same command/control functions as WiTP, but their operational roles are taken over by new devices in their composition.

Naval Support squads will now determine things like replenishment, rearmament, repair, load/unload, etc … Nimitz can inspire, but only 1000 gobs can fix things.

Along those same lines, I would ask:

1. How many assignable Fleet HQ's are there for the Allies at start? Is it just the Area Commands (West Coast, SE Asia, ect.) and Pacific Fleet?
2. For the Japanease? Is it just the Area Commands and Combined Fleet?
3. If it does exist ingame, does Pacific Fleet disband after 3rd and 5th Fleet arrive? Not sure what they did with that command IRL.

And by assignable Fleet HQ, I mean the different HQ's that we can assign ships too.

Thanks in advance.

Aaarrgh! Getting out of my playpen, here. But I think it’s SAIEW for the biggies. Subordinate HQs are assignable, so 3rd , 5th, 7th fleets can report to whoever. Same for the Japanese. Same time frames for introduction as in WiTP-1. Basically Chad, SAIEW, except they function more as real Fleet HQs rather than ship repair expediters.

Cool, thanks JWE. May I just add that being able to assign ships to HQ's is one of the biggest improvements in AE, atleast for me.

#3 -- Pacific Fleet changes name to "Pacific Ocean Areas" in early 42. POA (Nimitz) and SWPac (MacArthur) were the two true US Command ("Theatre") HQs of the period.

In AE, as in WitP, Asiatic Fleet, NoPac and SoPac also have Command HQ attributes, even though, historically, CenPac, NoPac and SoPac were subordinate to POA. In this respect AE is SAIEW.

The most significant difference is that there is no separate CenPac HQ in AE. Nimitz was dual-hatted as commander of both POA and CenPac. We choose to show his 'highest command'.

POA does not disband.

And ships can be assigned to any of these HQ's, without PP paid right?

I don't get it... what is the effect when the ship is being assigned to wrong HQ. It won't repair and reload weapons? Won't resupply?

NO affect. Assigning ships to HQs is for organizational purposes only.

Thanks for the replies Don and Blackhorse.

But dont downplay this. Its a huge feature! Great job on getting it in there.

I have yet to see it in a screenshot, so I dont think you can, but when you are selecting ships for a TF in the TF screen, is there any way to sort or distinguish by HQ?

For example, I am making a new amphib TF at Pearl, and I only want ships from SoPac in the TF. Will I be able to tell this from the actual TF selection screen, or will I just need to know the names of ships in SoPac?

Thanks again for all the great information and hard work!

No, no selection on the Ship Selection screen. Good idea though, maybe a mod.

So basically its more of a tool for the player to remember which ship goes where after drydock time?

Oh Im full of good ideas for AE. Its easy because I dont know how to code so I can dream big without knowing how hard it is to actually implement what seems to be a small thing [:D]

Would be nice to be able to do so, but not critical. Sitll would be nice though . . .

Thanks for the reply!
